Sunday of St. Thomas
John 20:16-29
Sunday after Pascha
St. Thomas, absent when Christ appeared to the other apostles on the eve of Pascha, is given the chance to place his finger in the wounds of Christ in order to believe that He is truly alive.

The golden color highlighting of Christ’s garment reflects the brightness of his resurrected body. He stands inside the room (as the red banners at the top indicate) in front of the locked doors through which He entered. Above Christ is a dome (kivorion) which symbolizes the sky or Heaven which overshadows the created world and from which God’s blessings have descended (including Christ),. Alternately, it may remind the viewer of the kouvouklion used in Holy Week services which represents the Tomb of Christ and from which He recently emerged.

Thomas approaches from the right as Christ allows him to touch the wound in His side as the other apostles look on. St. Thomas exclaims “My Lord and my God”.
