\n<\/strong>Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; 2\u00a0<\/sup>and He said to them, \u201cGo into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it.<\/em> 3\u00a0<\/sup>And if anyone says to you, \u2018Why are you doing this?\u2019 say, \u2018The Lord has need of it,\u2019 and immediately he will send it here.\u201d
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>So they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door outside on the street, and they loosed it. 5\u00a0<\/sup>But some of those who stood there said to them, \u201cWhat are you doing, loosing the colt?\u201d
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>And they spoke to them just as Jesus had commanded. So they let them go. 7\u00a0<\/sup>Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. 8\u00a0<\/sup>And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them<\/em> on the road. 9\u00a0<\/sup>Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
\n\u201cHosanna!
\n\u2018Blessed is<\/em> He who comes in the name of the Lord!\u2019
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>Blessed is<\/em> the kingdom of our father David
\nThat comes in the name of the Lord!
\nHosanna in the highest!\u201d
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus went into Jerusalem and into the temple. So when He had looked around at all things, as the hour was already late, He went out to Bethany with the twelve.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13\u00a0<\/sup>And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14\u00a0<\/sup>In response Jesus said to it, \u201cLet no one eat fruit from you ever again.\u201d
\nAnd His disciples heard it.
\n<\/em>15\u00a0<\/sup>So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 16\u00a0<\/sup>And He would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple. 17\u00a0<\/sup>Then He taught, saying to them, \u201cIs it not written, \u2018My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations\u2019? But you have made it a \u2018den of thieves.\u2019
\n18\u00a0<\/sup>And the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because all the people were astonished at His teaching. 19\u00a0<\/sup>When evening had come, He went out of the city.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25\u00a0<\/sup>the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken. 26\u00a0<\/sup>Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. 27\u00a0<\/sup>And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.
\n28\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cNow learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. 29\u00a0<\/sup>So you also, when you see these things happening, know that it is near\u2014at the doors! 30\u00a0<\/sup>Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. 31\u00a0<\/sup>Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
\n32\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33\u00a0<\/sup>Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. 34\u00a0<\/sup>It is<\/em> like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch. 35\u00a0<\/sup>Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming\u2014in the evening, at midnight, at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning\u2014 36\u00a0<\/sup>lest, coming suddenly, he find you sleeping. 37\u00a0<\/sup>And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>After two days it was the Passover and the Feast<\/em> of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take Him by trickery and put Him<\/em> to death. 2\u00a0<\/sup>But they said, \u201cNot during the feast, lest there be an uproar of the people.\u201d
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it<\/em> on His head. 4\u00a0<\/sup>But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, \u201cWhy was this fragrant oil wasted? 5\u00a0<\/sup>For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.\u201d And they criticized her sharply.
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said, \u201cLet her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. 7\u00a0<\/sup>For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always. 8\u00a0<\/sup>She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. 9\u00a0<\/sup>Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.\u201d
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. 11\u00a0<\/sup>And when they heard it,<\/em> they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it,<\/em> and gave it<\/em> to the disciples and said, \u201cTake, eat; this is My body.\u201d
\n27\u00a0<\/sup>Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it<\/em> to them, saying, \u201cDrink from it, all of you. 28\u00a0<\/sup>For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29\u00a0<\/sup>But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father\u2019s kingdom.\u201d
\n30\u00a0<\/sup>And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
\n31\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them, \u201cAll of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written:
\n\u2018I will strike the Shepherd,
\nAnd the sheep of the flock will be scattered.\u2019
\n32\u00a0<\/sup>But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>And they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull. 23\u00a0<\/sup>Then they gave Him wine mingled with myrrh to drink, but He did not take it.<\/em> 24\u00a0<\/sup>And when they crucified Him, they divided His garments, casting lots for them to determine<\/em> what every man should take.
\n25\u00a0<\/sup>Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him. 26\u00a0<\/sup>And the inscription of His accusation was written above:27\u00a0<\/sup>With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. 28\u00a0<\/sup>So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, \u201cAnd He was numbered with the transgressors.\u201d
\n29\u00a0<\/sup>And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, \u201cAha! You<\/em> who destroy the temple and build it<\/em> in three days, 30\u00a0<\/sup>save Yourself, and come down from the cross!\u201d
\n31\u00a0<\/sup>Likewise the chief priests also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, \u201cHe saved others; Himself He cannot save. 32\u00a0<\/sup>Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.\u201d
\n<\/sup>Even those who were crucified with Him reviled Him.
\n33\u00a0<\/sup>Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34\u00a0<\/sup>And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, \u201cEloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?\u201d which is translated, \u201cMy God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?\u201d
\n35\u00a0<\/sup>Some of those who stood by, when they heard that,<\/em> said, \u201cLook, He is calling for Elijah!\u201d 36\u00a0<\/sup>Then someone ran and filled a sponge full of sour wine, put it<\/em> on a reed, and offered it<\/em> to Him to drink, saying, \u201cLet Him alone; let us see if Elijah will come to take Him down.\u201d
\n37\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus cried out with a loud voice, and breathed His last.
\n38\u00a0<\/sup>Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39\u00a0<\/sup>So when the centurion, who stood opposite Him, saw that He cried out like this and breathed His last, he said, \u201cTruly this Man was the Son of God!\u201d
\n40\u00a0<\/sup>There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome, 41\u00a0<\/sup>who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee, and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
\n42\u00a0<\/sup>Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43\u00a0<\/sup>Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. 44\u00a0<\/sup>Pilate marveled that He was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if He had been dead for some time. 45\u00a0<\/sup>So when he found out from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46\u00a0<\/sup>Then he bought fine linen, took Him down, and wrapped Him in the linen. And he laid Him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock, and rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. 47\u00a0<\/sup>And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother<\/em> of Joses observed where He was laid.<\/p>\n
\nHoly Saturday <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Matthew 27:62-66
\nSUMMARY:\u00a0 Sabbath Day of Rest; Sealing the Tomb and Placing of Guards
\n<\/strong>On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, 63\u00a0<\/sup>saying, \u201cSir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, \u2018After three days I will rise.\u2019 64\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away,<\/em> and say to the people, \u2018He has risen from the dead.\u2019 So the last deception will be worse than the first.\u201d
\n65\u00a0<\/sup>Pilate said to them, \u201cYou have a guard; go your way, make it<\/em> as secure as you know how.\u201d 66\u00a0<\/sup>So they went and made the tomb secure, sealing the stone and setting the guard.<\/p>\n
