{"id":210,"date":"2015-05-11T00:48:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T00:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=210"},"modified":"2015-05-11T00:48:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T00:48:47","slug":"monday-may-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=210","title":{"rendered":"Monday, May 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #165916;\"><strong>Orthodox Daily Devotional<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Scripture Reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>JOHN 6: <sup>56\u00a0<\/sup>He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. <sup>57\u00a0<\/sup>As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. <sup>58\u00a0<\/sup>This is the bread which came down from heaven\u2014not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.\u201d <sup>59\u00a0<\/sup>These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum. <sup>60\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard <em>this,<\/em> said, \u201cThis is a hard saying; who can understand it?\u201d<sup>61\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, \u201cDoes this offend you? <sup>62\u00a0<\/sup><em>What<\/em> then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? <sup>63\u00a0<\/sup>It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and <em>they<\/em> are life. <sup>64\u00a0<\/sup>But there are some of you who do not believe.\u201d \u00a0For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. <sup>65\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, \u201cTherefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.\u201d <sup>66\u00a0<\/sup>From that <em>time<\/em> many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. <sup>67\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to the twelve, \u201cDo you also want to go away?\u201d <sup>68\u00a0<\/sup>But Simon Peter answered Him, \u201cLord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. <sup>69\u00a0<\/sup>Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.\u201d <sup>\u00a070\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus answered them, \u201cDid I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?\u201d <sup>71\u00a0<\/sup>He spoke of Judas Iscariot, <em>the son<\/em> of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Something to Think About<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span>This is the clearest evidence in the Gospels that the bread and wine of the Eucharist in Divine Liturgy because the real body and blood of Christ: \u00a0not a memorial &#8216;in place of&#8217; and not allegorically meaning his &#8216;teaching as food&#8217;. \u00a0If He meant that His teaching was food that needed to spiritually be consumed through study, why did many of his followers leave Him?<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">New Calendar\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oca.org\/saints\/lives\" target=\"_blank\">Saints<\/a> &amp;\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/oca.org\/readings\" target=\"_blank\">Lectionary Scriptures<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Old Calendar <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holytrinityorthodox.com\/calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\">Saints &amp; Lectionary Scriptures<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n<div style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'Calibri'; font-size: 12pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial; font-size: xx-small;\">Scripture taken from the New King James Version. \u00a9 1979, 1980, 1982 by Thomas Nelson, Inc.
