Now the Lord<\/span> spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying, <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThis month shall be<\/i> your beginning of months; it shall be<\/i> the first month of the year to you. <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: \u2018On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his<\/i> father, a lamb for a household. <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>And if the household is too small for the lamb, let him and his neighbor next to his house take it<\/i> according to the number of the persons; according to each man\u2019s need you shall make your count for the lamb. <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it<\/i> from the sheep or from the goats. <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>And they shall take some<\/i> of the blood and put it<\/i> on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and<\/i> with bitter herbs<\/i> they shall eat it. <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>Do not eat it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roasted in fire\u2014its head with its legs and its entrails. <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>You shall let none of it remain until morning, and what remains of it until morning you shall burn with fire. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>And thus you shall eat it: with<\/i> a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is<\/i> the Lord<\/span>\u2019s Passover.<\/span><\/p>\n 12\u00a0<\/sup>\u2018For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am<\/i> the Lord<\/span>. <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are.<\/i> And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you<\/i> when I strike the land of Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n 14\u00a0<\/sup>\u2018So this day shall be to you a memorial<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tuesday 29\u00a0<\/sup>And it came to pass at midnight that the Lord<\/span> struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was<\/i> in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of livestock. <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>So Pharaoh rose in the night, he, all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was<\/i> not a house where there was<\/i> not one dead.<\/span><\/p>\n 31\u00a0<\/sup>Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, \u201cRise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the Lord<\/span> as you have said. <\/span> 32\u00a0<\/sup>Also take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone; and bless me also.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 33\u00a0<\/sup>And the Egyptians urged the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste. For they said, \u201cWe shall<\/i> all be<\/i> dead.\u201d <\/span> 34\u00a0<\/sup>So the people took their dough before it was leavened, having their kneading bowls bound up in their clothes on their shoulders. <\/span> 35\u00a0<\/sup>Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing. <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>And the Lord<\/span> had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested.<\/i> Thus they plundered the Egyptians.<\/span><\/p>\n 37\u00a0<\/sup>Then the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides children. <\/span> 38\u00a0<\/sup>A mixed multitude went up with them also, and flocks and herds\u2014a great deal of livestock. <\/span> 39\u00a0<\/sup>And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they had brought out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were driven out of Egypt and could not wait, nor had they prepared provisions for themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n 40\u00a0<\/sup>Now the sojourn of the children of Israel who lived in Egypt[a<\/a>]<\/sup> was<\/i> four hundred and thirty years. <\/span> 41\u00a0<\/sup>And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years\u2014on that very same day\u2014it came to pass that all the armies of the Lord<\/span> went out from the land of Egypt. <\/span> 42\u00a0<\/sup>It is<\/i> a night of solemn observance to the Lord<\/span> for bringing them out of the land of Egypt. This is<\/i> that night of the Lord<\/span>, a solemn observance for all the children of Israel throughout their generations.<\/span><\/p>\n *Holy, holy, holy art Thou, O God; through the Theotokos have mercy on us.<\/p>\n Wednesday 5\u00a0<\/sup>Now it was told the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people; and they said, \u201cWhy have we done this, that we have let Israel go from serving us?\u201d <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>So he made ready his chariot and took his people with him. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>Also, he took six hundred choice chariots, and all the chariots of Egypt with captains over every one of them. <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>And the Lord<\/span> hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the children of Israel; and the children of Israel went out with boldness. <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>So the Egyptians pursued them, all the horses and<\/i> chariots of Pharaoh, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea beside Pi Hahiroth, before Baal Zephon.<\/span><\/p>\n 10\u00a0<\/sup>And when Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians marched after them. So they were very afraid, and the children of Israel cried out to the Lord<\/span>. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>Then they said to Moses, \u201cBecause there were<\/i> no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you so dealt with us, to bring us up out of Egypt? <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>Is<\/i> this not the word that we told you in Egypt, saying, \u2018Let us alone that we may serve the Egyptians\u2019? For it would have been<\/i> better for us to serve the Egyptians than that we should die in the wilderness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Thursday 13\u00a0<\/sup>And Moses said to the people, \u201cDo not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord<\/span>, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>The Lord<\/span> will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 15\u00a0<\/sup>And the Lord<\/span> said to Moses, \u201cWhy do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward. <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground<\/i> through the midst of the sea. <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>And I indeed will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them. So I will gain honor over Pharaoh and over all his army, his chariots, and his horsemen. <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Egyptians shall know that I am<\/i> the Lord<\/span>, when I have gained honor for Myself over Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 19\u00a0<\/sup>And the Angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one,<\/i> and it gave light by night to the other,<\/i> so that the one did not come near the other all that night.<\/span><\/p>\n Friday 21\u00a0<\/sup>Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord<\/span> caused the sea to go back<\/i> by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea into dry land,<\/i> and the waters were divided. <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>So the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea on the dry ground,<\/i> and the waters were<\/i> a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>And the Egyptians pursued and went after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh\u2019s horses, his chariots, and his horsemen.<\/span><\/p>\n 24\u00a0<\/sup>Now it came to pass, in the morning watch, that the Lord<\/span> looked down upon the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud, and He troubled the army of the Egyptians. <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>And He took off[a<\/a>]<\/sup> their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty; and the Egyptians said, \u201cLet us flee from the face of Israel, for the Lord<\/span> fights for them against the Egyptians.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 26\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Lord<\/span> said to Moses, \u201cStretch out your hand over the sea, that the waters may come back upon the Egyptians, on their chariots, and on their horsemen.\u201d <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and when the morning appeared, the sea returned to its full depth, while the Egyptians were fleeing into it. So the Lord<\/span> overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. <\/span> 28\u00a0<\/sup>Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and<\/i> all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. <\/span> 29\u00a0<\/sup>But the children of Israel had walked on dry land<\/i> in the midst of the sea, and the waters were<\/i> a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.<\/span><\/p>\n 30\u00a0<\/sup>So the Lord<\/span> saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. <\/span> 31\u00a0<\/sup>Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord<\/span> had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord<\/span>, and believed the Lord<\/span> and His servant Moses.<\/span><\/p>\n Saturday<\/p>\n Exodus 15<\/p>\n Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. <\/span> 21\u00a0<\/sup>And Miriam answered them:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cSing to the Lord<\/span>,<\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were<\/i> bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah.[a<\/a>]<\/sup> <\/span> 24\u00a0<\/sup>And the people complained against Moses, saying, \u201cWhat shall we drink?\u201d <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>So he cried out to the Lord<\/span>, and the Lord<\/span> showed him a tree. When he cast it<\/i> into the waters, the waters were made sweet.<\/span><\/p>\n There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them, <\/span> 26\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u201cIf you diligently heed the voice of the Lord<\/span> your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians.
