MATTHEW 3 13\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. 14\u00a0<\/sup>And John tried to<\/em> prevent Him, saying, \u201cI need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?\u201d\u00a0 15\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus answered and said to him, \u201cPermit it to be so<\/em> now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.\u201d Then he allowed Him.\u00a0 16\u00a0<\/sup>When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17\u00a0<\/sup>And suddenly a voice came<\/em> from heaven, saying, \u201cThis is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.\u201d<\/p>\n

Christ after He had been once born among men, is born a second time in the sacraments, that as we adore Him then born of a pure mother, so we may now receive Him immersed in pure water. His mother brought forth her Son, and is yet virgin; the wave washed Christ, and is holy. Lastly, that Holy Spirit which was present to Him in the womb, now shone round Him in the water, He who then made Mary pure, now sanctifies the waters.<\/p>\n
