{"id":907,"date":"2015-08-17T20:17:50","date_gmt":"2015-08-18T00:17:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=907"},"modified":"2015-08-15T21:02:43","modified_gmt":"2015-08-16T01:02:43","slug":"tuesday-august-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=907","title":{"rendered":"Tuesday, August 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 25 \u201cThen the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>Now five of them were wise, and five <em>were<\/em> foolish. <sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Those who <em>were<\/em> foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, <sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. <sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAnd at midnight a cry was <em>heard:<\/em> \u2018Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!\u2019 <sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. <sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>And the foolish said to the wise, \u2018Give us <em>some<\/em> of your oil, for our lamps are going out.\u2019 <sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>But the wise answered, saying, \u2018<em>No,<\/em> lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.\u2019 <sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAfterward the other virgins came also, saying, \u2018Lord, Lord, open to us!\u2019 <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>But he answered and said, \u2018Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.\u2019<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWatch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.<\/p>\n<p>He says that a cry was made in the middle of the night to show that the Lord comes when least expected, as at midnight when we all have fallen into a deep sleep. He also comes with a cry, for a trumpet will sound at the second coming. The lamps are our souls, and each one\u2019s mind is also a lamp; the lamp is lit when one has the oil of the virtues and of almsgiving.
