{"id":10094,"date":"2021-07-17T20:36:37","date_gmt":"2021-07-18T00:36:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=10094"},"modified":"2021-07-16T17:44:08","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T21:44:08","slug":"daily-devotional-for-july-18-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=10094","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional for July 18-24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday<\/p>\n<p>Matthew 26:20 \u00a0 When evening had come, He sat down with the twelve. 21 \u00a0 Now as they were eating, He said, \u201cAssuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.\u201d 22 \u00a0 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, \u201cLord, is it I?\u201d 23 \u00a0 He answered and said, \u201cHe who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me. 24The Son of Man indeed goes just as it is written of Him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.\u201d 25 \u00a0 Then Judas, who was betraying Him, answered and said, \u201cRabbi, is it I?\u201d He said to him, \u201cYou have said it.\u201d 26 \u00a0 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed* and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, \u201cTake, eat; this is My body.\u201d 27 \u00a0 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, \u201cDrink from it, all of you. 28For this is My blood of the new* covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. 29But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father\u2019s kingdom.\u201d 30 \u00a0 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nThis is the day which the Lord has made.\u00a0 Let us rejoice and be glad therein.<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nJohn 13:18\u201c I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, \u2018He who eats bread with Me* has lifted up his heel against Me.\u2019* 19Now I tell you before it\u00a0comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He. 20Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.\u201d 21 \u00a0 When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, \u201cMost assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.\u201d 22 \u00a0 Then the disciples looked at one another, perplexed about whom He spoke. 23 \u00a0 Now there was leaning on Jesus\u2019 bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved. 24 \u00a0 Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke. 25 \u00a0 Then, leaning back* on Jesus\u2019 breast, he said to Him, \u201cLord, who is it?\u201d 26 \u00a0 Jesus answered, \u201cIt is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it.\u201d And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 27 \u00a0 Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, \u201cWhat you do, do quickly.\u201d 28 \u00a0 But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him. 29 \u00a0 For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, \u201cBuy those things we need for the feast,\u201d or that he should give something to the poor. 30 \u00a0 Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nBlessed by the name of the Lord from henceforth and forever more.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>\nJohn 13:31 \u00a0 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, \u201cNow the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him. 32If God is glorified in Him, God will also glorify Him in Himself, and glorify Him immediately. 33Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, \u2018Where I am going, you cannot come,\u2019 so now I say to you. 34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.\u201d 36 \u00a0 Simon Peter said to Him, \u201cLord, where are You going?\u201d Jesus answered him, \u201cWhere I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward.\u201d 37 \u00a0 Peter said to Him, \u201cLord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.\u201d 38 \u00a0 Jesus answered him, \u201cWill you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nGlory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.\u00a0 As it was in the beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end.\u00a0 Amen.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nMatthew 26:31 \u00a0 Then Jesus said to them, \u201cAll of you will be made to stumble because of Me this night, for it is written: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018 I will strike the Shepherd, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And the sheep of the flock will be scattered.\u2019* 32But after I have been raised, I will go before you to Galilee.\u201d 33 \u00a0 Peter answered and said to Him, \u201cEven if all are made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.\u201d 34 \u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cAssuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.\u201d 35 \u00a0 Peter said to Him, \u201cEven if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!\u201d And so said all the disciples.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nCreate in me a clean heart of God and renew a right spirit within me.\u00a0 Cast me not from thy presence nor take thy Holy Spirit from me.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and by thy governing spirit establish me.<br \/>\nThursday<br \/>\nLuke 22:31 \u00a0 And the Lord said,* \u201cSimon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. 32But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.\u201d 33 \u00a0 But he said to Him, \u201cLord, I am ready to go with You, both to prison and to death.\u201d 34 \u00a0 Then He said, \u201cI tell you, Peter, the rooster shall not crow this day before you will deny three times that you know Me.\u201d 35 \u00a0 And He said to them, \u201cWhen I sent you without money bag, knapsack, and sandals, did you lack anything?\u201d So they said, \u201cNothing.\u201d 36 \u00a0 Then He said to them, \u201cBut now, he who has a money bag, let him take it, and likewise a knapsack; and he who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. 37For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: \u2018And He was numbered with the transgressors.\u2019* For the things concerning Me have an end.\u201d38 \u00a0 So they said, \u201cLord, look, here are two swords.\u201d And He said to them, \u201cIt is enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 O give thanks to the Lord for He is good, for His mercy endures forever.<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\nJohn 14:1\u201c Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2In My Father\u2019s house are many mansions;* if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.* 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4And where I go you know, and the way you know.\u201d 5 \u00a0 Thomas said to Him, \u201cLord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?\u201d 6 \u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cI am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except\u00a0through Me. 7\u201c If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.\u201d 8 \u00a0 Philip said to Him, \u201cLord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.\u201d 9 \u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cHave I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, \u2018Show us the Father\u2019? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. 12\u201c Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask* anything in My name, I will do it.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nI arise today<br \/>\nThrough a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,<br \/>\nThrough belief in the Threeness,<br \/>\nThrough confession of the Oneness<br \/>\nof the Creator of creation.<br \/>\n<em>From St. Patrick\u2019s \u2018Breastplate\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<br \/>\nJohn 14:15\u201c If you love Me, keep* My commandments. 16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever\u2014 17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. 19\u201c A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.\u201d 22 \u00a0 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, \u201cLord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not\u00a0\u00a0to the world?\u201d 23 \u00a0 Jesus answered and said to him, \u201cIf anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father\u2019s who sent Me. 25\u201c These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 28You have heard Me say to you, \u2018I am going away and coming back to you.\u2019 If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said,* \u2018I am going to the Father,\u2019 for My Father is greater than I. 29\u201c And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe. 30I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me. 31But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave Me commandment, so I do.
