People know neither love nor hatred <i>by<\/i> anything <i>they see<\/i> before them. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-17478\" class=\"text Eccl-9-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>All things <i>come<\/i> alike to all:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Eccl-9-2\">One event <i>happens<\/i> to the righteous and the wicked;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-2\">To the <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17478b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17478b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%209&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17478b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>good, the clean, and the unclean;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-2\">To him who sacrifices and him who does not sacrifice.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-2\">As is the good, so <i>is<\/i> the sinner;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-2\">He who takes an oath as <i>he<\/i> who fears an oath.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17479\" class=\"text Eccl-9-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>This <i>is<\/i> an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing <i>happens<\/i> to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness <i>is<\/i> in their hearts while they live, and after that <i>they go<\/i> to the dead. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-17480\" class=\"text Eccl-9-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>But for him who is joined to all the living there is hope, for a living dog is better than a dead lion.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17481\" class=\"text Eccl-9-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>For the living know that they will die;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-5\">But the dead know nothing,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-5\">And they have no more reward,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-5\">For the memory of them is forgotten.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17482\" class=\"text Eccl-9-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Also their love, their hatred, and their envy have now perished;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-6\">Nevermore will they have a share<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-6\">In anything done under the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17483\" class=\"text Eccl-9-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>Go, eat your bread with joy,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-7\">And drink your wine with a merry heart;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-7\">For God has already accepted your works.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17484\" class=\"text Eccl-9-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Let your garments always be white,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-8\">And let your head lack no oil.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17485\" class=\"text Eccl-9-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup><sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17485c\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17485c&quot; title=&quot;See footnote c&quot;&gt;c&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%209&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17485c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun, all your days of vanity; for that <i>is<\/i> your portion in life, and in the labor which you perform under the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-17486\" class=\"text Eccl-9-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Whatever your hand finds to do, do <i>it<\/i> with your might; for <i>there is<\/i> no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>COMMENTARY:<\/p>\n<p>9:1 There are two ways to go through life. Those righteous and wise are in the hand of God; unregenerate man is on his own.<br \/>\n9:4 The living dog is an image of the Gentile believers (Mt 15:26, 27), and the dead lion images the nation of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 We fly to thy patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.<br \/>\n*Sub Tuum Praesidium<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nEcclesiastes 9:<span id=\"en-NKJV-17487\" class=\"text Eccl-9-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>I returned and saw under the sun that\u2014<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">The race <i>is<\/i> not to the swift,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">Nor the battle to the strong,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">Nor bread to the wise,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">Nor riches to men of understanding,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">Nor favor to men of skill;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-11\">But time and chance happen to them all.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17488\" class=\"text Eccl-9-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>For man also does not know his time:<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-12\">Like fish taken in a cruel net,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-12\">Like birds caught in a snare,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-12\">So the sons of men <i>are<\/i> snared in an evil time,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-12\">When it falls suddenly upon them.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span class=\"text Eccl-9-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>This wisdom I have also seen under the sun, and it <i>seemed<\/i> great to me: <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-17490\" class=\"text Eccl-9-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup><i>There was<\/i> a little city with few men in it; and a great king came against it, besieged it, and built great <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17490d\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17490d&quot; title=&quot;See footnote d&quot;&gt;d&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%209&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17490d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup>snares around it. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-17491\" class=\"text Eccl-9-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city. Yet no one remembered that same poor man.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-17492\" class=\"text Eccl-9-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Then I said:<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Eccl-9-16\">\u201cWisdom <i>is<\/i> better than strength.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-16\">Nevertheless the poor man\u2019s wisdom <i>is<\/i> despised,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-16\">And his words are not heard.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17493\" class=\"text Eccl-9-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Words of the wise, <i>spoken<\/i> quietly, <i>should be<\/i> heard<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-17\">Rather than the shout of a ruler of fools.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17494\" class=\"text Eccl-9-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Wisdom <i>is<\/i> better than weapons of war;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-9-18\">But one sinner destroys much good.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>COMMENTARY:<\/p>\n<p>9:11 The victory in both race and battle belongs to the faithful.<br \/>\n9:14 The little city is the world, and the great king is the devil who besieged it.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and dwell in us, and cleanse us of all impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>\nEcclesiastes 10:Dead<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17495a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17495a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote c&quot;&gt;c&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%2010&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17498c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup> pacifies great offenses.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17499\" class=\"text Eccl-10-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>There is an evil I have seen under the sun,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-5\">As an error proceeding from the ruler:<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17500\" class=\"text Eccl-10-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Folly is set in <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17500d\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17500d&quot; title=&quot;See footnote d&quot;&gt;d&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%2010&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17500d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup>great dignity,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-6\">While the rich sit in a lowly place.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17501\" class=\"text Eccl-10-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>I have seen servants on horses,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-7\">While princes walk on the ground like servants.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17502\" class=\"text Eccl-10-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>He who digs a pit will fall into it,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-8\">And whoever breaks through a wall will be bitten by a serpent.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17503\" class=\"text Eccl-10-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>He who quarries stones may be hurt by them,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-9\"><i>And<\/i> he who splits wood may be endangered by it.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17504\" class=\"text Eccl-10-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>If the ax is dull,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-10\">And one does not sharpen the edge,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-10\">Then he must use more strength;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-10\">But wisdom <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17504e\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17504e&quot; title=&quot;See footnote e&quot;&gt;e&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%2010&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17504e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup>brings success.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17505\" class=\"text Eccl-10-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>A serpent may bite when <i>it is<\/i> not charmed;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-11\">The <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17505f\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17505f&quot; title=&quot;See footnote f&quot;&gt;f&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%2010&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17505f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup>babbler is no different.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>COMMENTARY:<\/p>\n<p>10:1 When we say, \u201cThere\u2019s a fly in the ointment,\u201d the saying comes from this verse (oil can be translated \u201cointment\u201d). This image illustrates how sin affects creation.<br \/>\n10:4 Do not leave your place: The wise man must not stray from his determination to glorify God.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Holy angel of the Lord by guardian, pray to God for me.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nEcclesiastes 10 The words of a wise man\u2019s mouth <i>are<\/i> gracious,<\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Eccl-10-12\">But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up;<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17507\" class=\"text Eccl-10-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>The words of his mouth begin with foolishness,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-13\">And the end of his talk <i>is<\/i> raving madness.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17508\" class=\"text Eccl-10-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>A fool also multiplies words.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-14\">No man knows what is to be;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-14\">Who can tell him what will be after him?<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17509\" class=\"text Eccl-10-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>The labor of fools wearies them,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-15\">For they do not even know how to go to the city!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17510\" class=\"text Eccl-10-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Woe to you, O land, when your king <i>is<\/i> a child,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-16\">And your princes feast in the morning!<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17511\" class=\"text Eccl-10-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Blessed <i>are<\/i> you, O land, when your king <i>is<\/i> the son of nobles,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-17\">And your princes feast at the proper time\u2014<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-17\">For strength and not for drunkenness!<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17512\" class=\"text Eccl-10-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Because of laziness the <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-17512g\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-17512g&quot; title=&quot;See footnote g&quot;&gt;g&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote g\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Ecclesiastes%2010&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-17512g\">g<\/a>]<\/sup>building decays,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-18\">And through idleness of hands the house leaks.<\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-17513\" class=\"text Eccl-10-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>A feast is made for laughter,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-19\">And wine makes merry;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-19\">But money answers everything.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-17514\" class=\"text Eccl-10-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Do not curse the king, even in your thought;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-20\">Do not curse the rich, even in your bedroom;<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-20\">For a bird of the air may carry your voice,<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Eccl-10-20\">And a bird in flight may tell the matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>COMMENTARY:<\/p>\n<p>10:15\u201317 The city can be seen as an image of the Kingdom of heaven, ruled by Christ the king and His princes (v. 16), the faithful. Christ calls the scribes and Pharisees fools (v. 15) for being too blind to see the truth (Mt 23:17, 19).<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Our Father, Who art in \u00a0Heaven, hallowed by Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.
