Mark 1:<\/p>\n
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>As it is written in [a<\/a>]<\/sup>the Prophets:<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cBehold, I send My messenger before Your face,<\/span><\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [b<\/a>]<\/sup>for the remission of sins. <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.<\/span><\/p>\n 6\u00a0<\/sup>Now John was clothed with camel\u2019s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>And he preached, saying, \u201cThere comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose. <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, deprive me not of Thy heavenly good things.<\/p>\n O Lord, deliver me from the eternal torments.\u00a0 (St John Chrysostom hourly prayers)<\/p>\n Monday<\/p>\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>It came to pass in those days that<\/i> Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately, coming up [c<\/a>]<\/sup>from the water, He saw the heavens [d<\/a>]<\/sup>parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>Then a voice came from heaven, \u201cYou are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Mark 1: 12\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately the Spirit [e<\/a>]<\/sup>drove Him into the wilderness. <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.<\/span><\/p>\n 14\u00a0<\/sup>Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel [f<\/a>]<\/sup>of the kingdom of God, <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>and saying, \u201cThe time is fulfilled, and<\/span> the kingdom of God<\/span> [g<\/a>]<\/sup>is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 16\u00a0<\/sup>And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them, \u201cFollow Me, and I will make you become<\/span> fishers of men.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>They immediately left their nets and followed Him.<\/span><\/p>\n 19\u00a0<\/sup>When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son<\/i> of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were<\/i> in the boat mending their nets. <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.<\/span><\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, if I have sinned in mind or thought, in word or deed, forgive me.<\/p>\n O Lord, deliver me from all ignorance, forgetfulness, faint-heartedness, and stony insensibility.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tuesday<\/p>\n Mark 1:<\/p>\n 21\u00a0<\/sup>Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.<\/span><\/p>\n 23\u00a0<\/sup>Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, <\/span> 24\u00a0<\/sup>saying, \u201cLet us<\/i> alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are\u2014the Holy One of God!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 25\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus rebuked him, saying, [h<\/a>]<\/sup>\u201cBe quiet, and come out of him!\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 26\u00a0<\/sup>And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, [i<\/a>]<\/sup>\u201cWhat is this? What new [j<\/a>]<\/sup>doctrine is<\/i> this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.\u201d <\/span> 28\u00a0<\/sup>And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.<\/span><\/p>\n 29\u00a0<\/sup>Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>But Simon\u2019s wife\u2019s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. <\/span> 31\u00a0<\/sup>So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.<\/span><\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, deliver me from every temptation.<\/p>\n O Lord, enlighten my heart which evil desire hath darkened.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Wednesday<\/p>\n Mark 1:<\/p>\n 32\u00a0<\/sup>At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. <\/span> 33\u00a0<\/sup>And the whole city was gathered together at the door. <\/span> 34\u00a0<\/sup>Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.<\/span><\/p>\n 35\u00a0<\/sup>Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a [k<\/a>]<\/sup>solitary place; and there He prayed. <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>And Simon and those who were<\/i> with Him searched for Him. <\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>When they found Him, they said to Him, \u201cEveryone is looking for You.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 38\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, \u201cLet us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because<\/span> for this purpose I have come forth.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 39\u00a0<\/sup>And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.<\/span><\/p>\n 40\u00a0<\/sup>Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, \u201cIf You are willing, You can make me clean.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 41\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His<\/i> hand and touched him, and said to him, \u201cI am willing; be cleansed.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 42\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed. <\/span> 43\u00a0<\/sup>And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once, <\/span> 44\u00a0<\/sup>and said to him, \u201cSee that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things<\/span> which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 45\u00a0<\/sup>However, he went out and began to proclaim it<\/i> freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, as a man I have sinned, but do Thou, as the compassionate God, have mercy on me, seeing the infirmity of my soul.<\/p>\n O Lord, send Thy grace to my help, that I may glorify Thy holy name.<\/p>\n Thursday And again He entered Capernaum after some<\/i> days, and it was heard that He was in the house. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>[a<\/a>]<\/sup>Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them,<\/i> not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men.<\/i> <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying.<\/span><\/p>\n 5\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, \u201cSon, your sins are forgiven you.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 6\u00a0<\/sup>And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cWhy does this Man<\/i> speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 8\u00a0<\/sup>But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, \u201cWhy do you reason about these things in your hearts?<\/span> <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, \u2018Your<\/i> sins are forgiven you,\u2019 or to say, \u2018Arise, take up your bed and walk\u2019?<\/span> <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>But that you may know that the Son of Man has<\/span> [b<\/a>]<\/sup>power on earth to forgive sins\u201d<\/span>\u2014He said to the paralytic, <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, \u201cWe never saw anything<\/i> like this!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prayer: O Lord Jesus Christ, write me Thy servant in the Book of Life, and grant me a good end.<\/p>\n O Lord my God, even though I have done nothing good in Thy sight, yet grant me by Thy grace to make a good beginning.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Friday<\/p>\n Mark 2:<\/p>\n 13\u00a0<\/sup>Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>As He passed by, He saw Levi the son<\/i> of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, \u201cFollow Me.\u201d<\/span> So he arose and followed Him.<\/span><\/p>\n 15\u00a0<\/sup>Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi\u2019s<\/i> house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>And when the scribes [c<\/a>]<\/sup>and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, \u201cHow is it<\/i> that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 17\u00a0<\/sup>When Jesus heard it,<\/i> He said to them, \u201cThose who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the<\/i> righteous, but sinners,<\/span> [d<\/a>]<\/sup>to repentance.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 18\u00a0<\/sup>The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, \u201cWhy do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
\nWho will prepare Your way before You.\u201d<\/span><\/span>
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThe<\/span> voice of one crying in the wilderness:<\/span><\/span>
\n\u2018Prepare the way of the<\/span> Lord<\/span>;<\/span><\/span>
