Sunday<\/p>\n

Mark 3:1\u00a0<\/span>And He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>So they watched Him closely, whether He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might [a<\/a>]<\/sup>accuse Him. <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to the man who had the withered hand, [b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u201cStep forward.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them, \u201cIs it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?\u201d<\/span> But they kept silent. <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man, \u201cStretch out your hand.\u201d<\/span> And he stretched it<\/i> out, and his hand was restored [c<\/a>]<\/sup>as whole as the other. <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.<\/span><\/p>\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him. <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>So He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they should crush Him. <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw Him, fell down before Him and cried out, saying, \u201cYou are the Son of God.\u201d <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>But He sternly warned them that they should not make Him known.<\/span><\/p>\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>And He went up on the mountain and called to Him<\/i> those He Himself wanted. And they came to Him. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>Then He appointed twelve, [d<\/a>]<\/sup>that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach, <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>and to have [e<\/a>]<\/sup>power [f<\/a>]<\/sup>to heal sicknesses and to cast out demons: <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>[g<\/a>]<\/sup>Simon, to whom He gave the name Peter; <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>James the son<\/i> of Zebedee and John the brother of James, to whom He gave the name Boanerges, that is, \u201cSons of Thunder\u201d; <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son<\/i> of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Cananite; <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And they went into a house.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 O Lord, lead me not into temptation.<\/p>\n

O Lord, grant me good thoughts.\u00a0 (Hourly prayers or St John Chrysostom)<\/p>\n

Monday<\/p>\n

Mark 3:\u00a020\u00a0<\/sup>Then the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. <\/span> 21\u00a0<\/sup>But when His own people heard about this,<\/i> they went out to lay hold of Him, for they said, \u201cHe is out of His mind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

22\u00a0<\/sup>And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem said, \u201cHe has Beelzebub,\u201d and, \u201cBy the ruler of the demons He casts out demons.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

23\u00a0<\/sup>So He called them to Himself<\/i> and said to them in parables: \u201cHow can Satan cast out Satan?<\/span> <\/span> 24\u00a0<\/sup>If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.<\/span> <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.<\/span> <\/span> 26\u00a0<\/sup>And if Satan has risen up against himself, and is divided, he cannot stand, but has an end.<\/span> <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>No one can enter a strong man\u2019s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. And then he will plunder his house.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, grant me tears, and remembrance of death, and compunction.<\/p>\n

O Lord, grant me the thought of confessing my sins.<\/p>\n

Tuesday<\/p>\n

Mark 3:28\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAssuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter;<\/span> <\/span> 29\u00a0<\/sup>but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation\u201d<\/span>\u2014 <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>because they said, \u201cHe has an unclean spirit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

31\u00a0<\/sup>Then His brothers and His mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him. <\/span> 32\u00a0<\/sup>And a multitude was sitting around Him; and they said to Him, \u201cLook, Your mother and Your brothers [h<\/a>]<\/sup>are outside seeking You.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

33\u00a0<\/sup>But He answered them, saying, \u201cWho is My mother, or My brothers?\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 34\u00a0<\/sup>And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, \u201cHere are My mother and My brothers!<\/span> <\/span> 35\u00a0<\/sup>For whoever does the<\/span> will of God is My brother and My sister and mother.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer: O Lord, grant me humility, chastity, and obedience.<\/p>\n

O Lord, grant me patience, courage, and meekness.<\/p>\n

Wednesday<\/p>\n

Mark 4:\u00a0<\/span>And again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it<\/i> on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching:<\/span><\/p>\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cListen! Behold, a sower went out to sow.<\/span> <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>And it happened, as he sowed, that<\/i> some seed<\/i> fell by the wayside; and the birds<\/span> [a<\/a>]<\/sup>of the air came and devoured it.<\/span> <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth.<\/span> <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away.<\/span> <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>And some seed<\/i> fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no<\/span> [b<\/a>]<\/sup>crop.<\/span> <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>But other seed<\/i> fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

9\u00a0<\/sup>And He said [c<\/a>]<\/sup>to them, \u201cHe who has ears to hear, let him hear!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

10\u00a0<\/sup>But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, \u201cTo you it has been given to<\/span> know the<\/span> [d<\/a>]<\/sup>mystery of the kingdom of God; but to<\/span> those who are outside, all things come in parables,<\/span> <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>so that<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Seeing they may see and not perceive,<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd hearing they may hear and not understand;<\/span><\/span>
\nLest they should turn,<\/span><\/span>
\nAnd their<\/i> sins be forgiven them.\u2019<\/span> \u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, implant in me the root of good, Thy fear in my heart.<\/p>\n

O Lord, vouchsafe me to love Thee with all my soul and thoughts, and in all things to do Thy will.<\/p>\n

Thursday
\nMark 4:13\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, \u201cDo you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?<\/span> <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>The sower sows the word.<\/span> <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts.<\/span> <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness;<\/span> <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word\u2019s sake, immediately they stumble.<\/span> <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are<\/i> the ones who hear the word,<\/span> <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>and the<\/span> cares of this world,<\/span> the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.<\/span> <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word,<\/span> [e<\/a>]<\/sup>accept it,<\/i> and bear<\/span> fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

21\u00a0<\/sup>Also He said to them, \u201cIs a lamp brought to be put under a basket or under a bed? Is it not to be set on a lampstand?<\/span> <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>For there is nothing hidden which will not be revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but that it should come to light.<\/span> <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Prayer: O Lord, protect me from evil men, and demons, and passions, and from every other unseemly thing.<\/p>\n

O Lord, Thou knowest that Thou doest as Thou wilt: Thy will be done also in me a sinner; for blessed art Thou unto the ages. Amen.<\/p>\n

Friday<\/p>\n

Mark 4:24\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them, \u201cTake heed what you hear.<\/span> With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.<\/span> <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>For whoever has, to him more will be given; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

26\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, \u201cThe kingdom of God is as if a man should<\/span> [f<\/a>]<\/sup>scatter seed on the ground,<\/span> <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and<\/span> grow, he himself does not know how.<\/span> <\/span> 28\u00a0<\/sup>For the earth<\/span> yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head.<\/span> <\/span> 29\u00a0<\/sup>But when the grain ripens, immediately<\/span> he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

30\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said, \u201cTo what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it?<\/span> <\/span> 31\u00a0<\/sup>It is<\/i> like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth;<\/span> <\/span> 32\u00a0<\/sup>but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Lord if it be that I have done a good thing I thank Thee for by Thy Grace is has been done.<\/p>\n

Saturday<\/p>\n

Mark 4:33\u00a0<\/sup>And with many such parables He spoke the word to them as they were able to hear it.<\/i> <\/span> 34\u00a0<\/sup>But without a parable He did not speak to them. And when they were alone, He explained all things to His disciples.<\/span><\/p>\n

35\u00a0<\/sup>On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, \u201cLet us cross over to the other side.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. <\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. <\/span> 38\u00a0<\/sup>But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, \u201cTeacher, do You not care that we are perishing?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

39\u00a0<\/sup>Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, \u201cPeace,<\/span>[g<\/a>]<\/sup> be still!\u201d<\/span> And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. <\/span> 40\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, \u201cWhy are you so fearful?<\/span> How<\/span>[h<\/a>]<\/sup> is it<\/i> that you have no faith?\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 41\u00a0<\/sup>And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, \u201cWho can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
