Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24457\" class=\"text Mark-6-49\"><sup class=\"versenum\">49\u00a0<\/sup>And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24458\" class=\"text Mark-6-50\"><sup class=\"versenum\">50\u00a0<\/sup>for they all saw Him and were troubled. It is I; do not be<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">afraid.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24459\" class=\"text Mark-6-51\"><sup class=\"versenum\">51\u00a0<\/sup>Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24460\" class=\"text Mark-6-52\"><sup class=\"versenum\">52\u00a0<\/sup>For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-6-53\"><sup class=\"versenum\">53\u00a0<\/sup>When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24462\" class=\"text Mark-6-54\"><sup class=\"versenum\">54\u00a0<\/sup>And when they came out of the boat, immediately <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24462k\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24462k&quot; title=&quot;See footnote k&quot;&gt;k&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote k\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%206&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24462k\">k<\/a>]<\/sup>the people recognized Him, <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24463\" class=\"text Mark-6-55\"><sup class=\"versenum\">55\u00a0<\/sup>ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24464\" class=\"text Mark-6-56\"><sup class=\"versenum\">56\u00a0<\/sup>Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O Gentle Light of the holy glory of the immortal, heavenly, holy, blessed Father, O Jesus Christ: Having come to the setting of the sun, having beheld the evening light, we praise the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: God. Meet it is for Thee at all times to be hymned with reverent voices, O Son of God, Giver of life. Wherefore, the world doth glorify Thee.<br \/>\n*Eastern Vesper Hymn<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nMark 7:\u00a0<span class=\"text Mark-7-1\">Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24466\" class=\"text Mark-7-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>Now <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24466a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24466a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24466a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24466b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24466b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24466b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>they found fault. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24467\" class=\"text Mark-7-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash <i>their<\/i> hands <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24467c\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24467c&quot; title=&quot;See footnote c&quot;&gt;c&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24467c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24468\" class=\"text Mark-7-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup><i>When they come<\/i> from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, <i>like<\/i> the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24469\" class=\"text Mark-7-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, \u201cWhy do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24470\" class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>He answered and said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cWell did Isaiah prophesy of you<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">hypocrites, as it is written:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"poetry top-1\">\n<p class=\"line\"><span class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><span class=\"woj\">\u2018This people honors Me with <i>their<\/i> lips,<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Mark-7-6\"><span class=\"woj\">But their heart is far from Me.<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span id=\"en-NKJV-24471\" class=\"text Mark-7-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And in vain they worship Me,<\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"text Mark-7-7\"><span class=\"woj\">Teaching <i>as<\/i> doctrines the commandments of men.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"first-line-none top-1\"><span id=\"en-NKJV-24472\" class=\"text Mark-7-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men\u2014<\/span><sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24472d\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24472d&quot; title=&quot;See footnote d&quot;&gt;d&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24472d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24473\" class=\"text Mark-7-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201c<i>All too<\/i> well<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">you<\/span> <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24473e\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24473e&quot; title=&quot;See footnote e&quot;&gt;e&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24473e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24474\" class=\"text Mark-7-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For Moses said,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">\u2018Honor your father and your mother\u2019; and,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">\u2018He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.\u2019<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24475\" class=\"text Mark-7-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">But you say, \u2018If a man says to his father or mother,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhatever profit you might have received from me <i>is<\/i> Corban\u201d\u2014\u2019 (that is, a gift <i>to God<\/i>),<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24476\" class=\"text Mark-7-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24477\" class=\"text Mark-7-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>\nMark 7:<span id=\"en-NKJV-24478\" class=\"text Mark-7-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>When He had called all the multitude to <i>Himself,<\/i> He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cHear Me, everyone, and<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">understand:<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24479\" class=\"text Mark-7-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">defile a man.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24480\" class=\"text Mark-7-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">If<\/span><sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24480f\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24480f&quot; title=&quot;See footnote f&quot;&gt;f&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote f\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24480f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup> <span class=\"woj\">anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24481\" class=\"text Mark-7-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24482\" class=\"text Mark-7-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>So He said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cAre you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24483\" class=\"text Mark-7-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated,<\/span> <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24483g\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24483g&quot; title=&quot;See footnote g&quot;&gt;g&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote g\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24483g\">g<\/a>]<\/sup><span class=\"woj\"><i>thus<\/i> purifying all foods?\u201d<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24484\" class=\"text Mark-7-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhat comes out of a man, that defiles a man.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24485\" class=\"text Mark-7-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">For from within, out of the heart of men,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">proceed evil thoughts,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">adulteries,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">fornications, murders,<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24486\" class=\"text Mark-7-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">thefts,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">covetousness, wickedness,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">deceit,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">lewdness, an evil eye,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">blasphemy,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">pride, foolishness.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24487\" class=\"text Mark-7-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">All these evil things come from within and defile a man.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world: have mercy upon us. Lamb of God, who takest away the sins of the world, grant us peace.<br \/>\n*Agnus Dei<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nMark 7:<span class=\"text Mark-7-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24488h\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24488h&quot; title=&quot;See footnote h&quot;&gt;h&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote h\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24488h\">h<\/a>]<\/sup>and Sidon. Grant victory over their enemies to Orthodox Christians, and protect Thy people with Thy Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>\nMark 7:\u00a0<span class=\"text Mark-7-31\"><sup class=\"versenum\">31\u00a0<\/sup>Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24496\" class=\"text Mark-7-32\"><sup class=\"versenum\">32\u00a0<\/sup>Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24497\" class=\"text Mark-7-33\"><sup class=\"versenum\">33\u00a0<\/sup>And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24498\" class=\"text Mark-7-34\"><sup class=\"versenum\">34\u00a0<\/sup>Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cEphphatha,\u201d<\/span> that is, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cBe opened.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24499\" class=\"text Mark-7-35\"><sup class=\"versenum\">35\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately his ears were opened, and the <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24499l\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24499l&quot; title=&quot;See footnote l&quot;&gt;l&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%207&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24499l\">l<\/a>]<\/sup>impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24500\" class=\"text Mark-7-36\"><sup class=\"versenum\">36\u00a0<\/sup>Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed <i>it.<\/i> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24501\" class=\"text Mark-7-37\"><sup class=\"versenum\">37\u00a0<\/sup>And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, \u201cHe has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O my God relying on Thy infinite goodness and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.<br \/>\n*Act of Hope<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\nMark 8:\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"text Mark-8-1\">In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples <i>to Him<\/i> and said to them, <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24503\" class=\"text Mark-8-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">\u201cI have<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24504\" class=\"text Mark-8-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24505\" class=\"text Mark-8-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>Then His disciples answered Him, \u201cHow can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24506\" class=\"text Mark-8-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>He asked them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cHow many loaves do you have?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-8-5\">And they said, \u201cSeven.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24507\" class=\"text Mark-8-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke <i>them<\/i> and gave <i>them<\/i> to His disciples to set before <i>them;<\/i> and they set <i>them<\/i> before the multitude. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24508\" class=\"text Mark-8-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>They also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He said to set them also before <i>them.<\/i> <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24509\" class=\"text Mark-8-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24510\" class=\"text Mark-8-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He sent them away, <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24511\" class=\"text Mark-8-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>immediately got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O my God I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all-good and worthy of all my love. Assuredly, I say to you,<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">no sign shall be given to this generation.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Mark-8-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24515\" class=\"text Mark-8-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Now <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24515a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24515a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%208&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24515a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-24516\" class=\"text Mark-8-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Then He charged them, saying, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cTake heed, beware of the<\/span> <sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-24516b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-24516b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark%208&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-24516b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup><span class=\"woj\">leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24517\" class=\"text Mark-8-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>And they reasoned among themselves, saying, \u201c<i>It is<\/i> because we have no bread.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-24518\" class=\"text Mark-8-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus, being aware of <i>it,<\/i> said to them, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cWhy do you reason because you have no bread?<\/span> <span class=\"woj\">Do you not yet perceive nor understand?
