\nMark 6:45\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately He [i<\/a>]<\/sup>made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the multitude away. <\/span> 46\u00a0<\/sup>And when He had sent them away, He departed to the mountain to pray. <\/span> 47\u00a0<\/sup>Now when evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea; and He was<\/i> alone on the land. <\/span> 48\u00a0<\/sup>Then He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. Now about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea, and would have passed them by. <\/span> 49\u00a0<\/sup>And when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; <\/span> 50\u00a0<\/sup>for they all saw Him and were troubled. But immediately He talked with them and said to them, \u201cBe<\/span>[j<\/a>]<\/sup> of good cheer! It is I; do not be<\/span> afraid.\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 51\u00a0<\/sup>Then He went up into the boat to them, and the wind ceased. And they were greatly amazed in themselves beyond measure, and marveled. <\/span> 52\u00a0<\/sup>For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened.<\/span><\/p>\n

53\u00a0<\/sup>When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret and anchored there. <\/span> 54\u00a0<\/sup>And when they came out of the boat, immediately [k<\/a>]<\/sup>the people recognized Him, <\/span> 55\u00a0<\/sup>ran through that whole surrounding region, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick to wherever they heard He was. <\/span> 56\u00a0<\/sup>Wherever He entered, into villages, cities, or the country, they laid the sick in the marketplaces, and begged Him that they might just touch the hem of His garment. And as many as touched Him were made well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O Gentle Light of the holy glory of the immortal, heavenly, holy, blessed Father, O Jesus Christ: Having come to the setting of the sun, having beheld the evening light, we praise the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: God. Monday
\nMark 7:\u00a0Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>Now [a<\/a>]<\/sup>when they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, [b<\/a>]<\/sup>they found fault. <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their<\/i> hands [c<\/a>]<\/sup>in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>When they come<\/i> from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like<\/i> the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches.<\/span><\/p>\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, \u201cWhy do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>He answered and said to them, \u201cWell did Isaiah prophesy of you<\/span> hypocrites, as it is written:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018This people honors Me with their<\/i> lips,<\/span><\/span>
\nBut their heart is far from Me.<\/span><\/span>
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>And in vain they worship Me,<\/span><\/span>
\nTeaching as<\/i> doctrines the commandments of men.\u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

8\u00a0<\/sup>For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold the tradition of men\u2014<\/span>[d<\/a>]<\/sup>the washing of pitchers and cups, and many other such things you do.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

9\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them, \u201cAll too<\/i> well<\/span> you<\/span> [e<\/a>]<\/sup>reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition.<\/span> <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>For Moses said,<\/span> \u2018Honor your father and your mother\u2019; and,<\/span> \u2018He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.\u2019<\/span> <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>But you say, \u2018If a man says to his father or mother,<\/span> \u201cWhatever profit you might have received from me is<\/i> Corban\u201d\u2014\u2019 (that is, a gift to God<\/i>),<\/span> <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother,<\/span> <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>making the word of God of no effect through your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.<\/p>\n

Tuesday
\nMark 7:\u00a0<\/sup>When He had called all the multitude to Himself,<\/i> He said to them, \u201cHear Me, everyone, and<\/span> understand:<\/span> <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that<\/span> defile a man.<\/span> <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>If<\/span>[f<\/a>]<\/sup> anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

17\u00a0<\/sup>When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>So He said to them, \u201cAre you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,<\/span> <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated,<\/span> [g<\/a>]<\/sup>thus<\/i> purifying all foods?\u201d<\/span> <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>And He said, \u201cWhat comes out of a man, that defiles a man.<\/span> <\/span> 21\u00a0<\/sup>For from within, out of the heart of men,<\/span> proceed evil thoughts,<\/span> adulteries,<\/span> fornications, murders,<\/span> <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>thefts,<\/span> covetousness, wickedness,<\/span> deceit,<\/span> lewdness, an evil eye,<\/span> blasphemy,<\/span> pride, foolishness.<\/span> <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>All these evil things come from within and defile a man.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday
\nMark 7:24\u00a0<\/sup>From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre [h<\/a>]<\/sup>and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it,<\/i> but He could not be hidden. <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. <\/span> 26\u00a0<\/sup>The woman was a [i<\/a>]<\/sup>Greek, a [j<\/a>]<\/sup>Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept [k<\/a>]<\/sup>asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus said to her, \u201cLet the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children\u2019s bread and throw it<\/i> to the little dogs.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

28\u00a0<\/sup>And she answered and said to Him, \u201cYes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children\u2019s crumbs.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

29\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to her, \u201cFor this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

30\u00a0<\/sup>And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, save Thy people and bless Thine inheritance. Grant victory over their enemies to Orthodox Christians, and protect Thy people with Thy Cross.<\/p>\n

Thursday
\nMark 7:\u00a031\u00a0<\/sup>Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. <\/span> 32\u00a0<\/sup>Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. <\/span> 33\u00a0<\/sup>And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. <\/span> 34\u00a0<\/sup>Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, \u201cEphphatha,\u201d<\/span> that is, \u201cBe opened.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

35\u00a0<\/sup>Immediately his ears were opened, and the [l<\/a>]<\/sup>impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it.<\/i> <\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, \u201cHe has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O my God relying on Thy infinite goodness and promises, I hope to obtain pardon of my sins, the help of Thy grace, and life everlasting, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer.

Friday
\nMark 8:\u00a0\u00a0In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him<\/i> and said to them, <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cI have<\/span> compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat.<\/span> <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4\u00a0<\/sup>Then His disciples answered Him, \u201cHow can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>He asked them, \u201cHow many loaves do you have?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And they said, \u201cSeven.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them<\/i> and gave them<\/i> to His disciples to set before them;<\/i> and they set them<\/i> before the multitude. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>They also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He said to set them also before them.<\/i> <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>Now those who had eaten were about four thousand. And He sent them away, <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>immediately got into the boat with His disciples, and came to the region of Dalmanutha.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O my God I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all-good and worthy of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.

Saturday
\nMark 8:11\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, \u201cWhy does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you,<\/span> no sign shall be given to this generation.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>And He left them, and getting into the boat again, departed to the other side. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>Now [a<\/a>]<\/sup>the disciples had forgotten to take bread, and they did not have more than one loaf with them in the boat. <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>Then He charged them, saying, \u201cTake heed, beware of the<\/span> [b<\/a>]<\/sup>leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

16\u00a0<\/sup>And they reasoned among themselves, saying, \u201cIt is<\/i> because we have no bread.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

17\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus, being aware of it,<\/i> said to them, \u201cWhy do you reason because you have no bread?<\/span> Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Is your heart<\/span> [c<\/a>]<\/sup>still hardened?<\/span> <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?<\/span> <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

They said to Him, \u201cTwelve.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

20\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cAlso,<\/span> when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

And they said, \u201cSeven.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

21\u00a0<\/sup>So He said to them, \u201cHow is it<\/i><\/span> you do not understand?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O my God I love Thee above all things, with my whole heart and soul, because Thou art all-good and worthy of all love. I love my neighbor as myself for the love of Thee.
