Mark 12:28\u00a0<\/sup>Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, [i<\/a>]<\/sup>perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, \u201cWhich is the [j<\/a>]<\/sup>first commandment of all?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 29\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus answered him, \u201cThe<\/span> [k<\/a>]<\/sup>first of all the commandments is:<\/i><\/span> \u2018Hear, O Israel, the Lord<\/span> our God, the Lord<\/span> is one.<\/span> <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>And you shall<\/span> love the Lord<\/span> your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.\u2019<\/span> [l<\/a>]<\/sup>This is<\/i> the first commandment.<\/span> <\/span> 31\u00a0<\/sup>And the second, like it, is<\/i> this:<\/span> \u2018You shall love your neighbor as yourself.\u2019 There is no other commandment greater than<\/span> these.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 32\u00a0<\/sup>So the scribe said to Him, \u201cWell said,<\/i> Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. <\/span> 33\u00a0<\/sup>And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, [m<\/a>]<\/sup>with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one\u2019s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 34\u00a0<\/sup>Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, \u201cYou are not far from the kingdom of God.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n But after that no one dared question Him.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, deprive me not of Thy heavenly good things.<\/p>\n O Lord, deliver me from the eternal torments.\u00a0 (St John Chrysostom hourly prayers)<\/p>\n Monday<\/p>\n Mark 12:35\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, \u201cHow is it<\/i> that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?<\/span> <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>For David himself said<\/span> by the Holy Spirit:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u2018The Lord<\/span> said to my Lord,<\/span><\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore David himself calls Him \u2018Lord\u2019; how is He then<\/i> his<\/span> Son?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n And the common people heard Him gladly.<\/span><\/p>\n 38\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to them in His teaching, \u201cBeware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes,<\/span> love<\/i> greetings in the marketplaces,<\/span> <\/span> 39\u00a0<\/sup>the<\/span> best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,<\/span> <\/span> 40\u00a0<\/sup>who devour widows\u2019 houses, and<\/span> [n<\/a>]<\/sup>for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 41\u00a0<\/sup>Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were<\/i> rich put in much. <\/span> 42\u00a0<\/sup>Then one poor widow came and threw in two [o<\/a>]<\/sup>mites, which make a [p<\/a>]<\/sup>quadrans. <\/span> 43\u00a0<\/sup>So He called His disciples to Himself<\/i> and said to them, \u201cAssuredly, I say to you that<\/span> this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury;<\/span> <\/span> 44\u00a0<\/sup>for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had,<\/span> her whole livelihood.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, if I have sinned in mind or thought, in word or deed, forgive me.<\/p>\n O Lord, deliver me from all ignorance, forgetfulness, faint-heartedness, and stony insensibility.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Tuesday<\/p>\n Mark 13:1\u00a0Then as He went out of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, \u201cTeacher, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!<\/i>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 2\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus answered and said to him, \u201cDo you see these great buildings?<\/span> Not one<\/i> stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 3\u00a0<\/sup>Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked Him privately, <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTell us, when will these things be? And what will be<\/i> the sign when all these things will be fulfilled?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 5\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus, answering them, began to say: \u201cTake heed that no one deceives you.<\/span> <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>For many will come in My name, saying, \u2018I am He,<\/i>\u2019 and will deceive many.<\/span> <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things<\/i> must happen, but the end is<\/i> not yet.<\/span> <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>For nation will rise against nation, and<\/span> kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines<\/span> [a<\/a>]<\/sup>and troubles.<\/span> These are<\/i> the beginnings of<\/span> [b<\/a>]<\/sup>sorrows.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut<\/span> watch out for yourselves, for they will deliver you up to councils, and you will be beaten in the synagogues. You will<\/span> [c<\/a>]<\/sup>be brought before rulers and kings for My sake, for a testimony to them.<\/span> <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>And<\/span> the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.<\/span> <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>But when they arrest you<\/i> and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand,<\/span> [d<\/a>]<\/sup>or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak,<\/span> but the Holy Spirit.<\/span> <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>Now<\/span> brother will betray brother to death, and a father his<\/i> child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.<\/span> <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>And you will be hated by all for My name\u2019s sake. But<\/span> he who<\/span> [e<\/a>]<\/sup>endures to the end shall be saved.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, deliver me from every temptation.<\/p>\n O Lord, enlighten my heart which evil desire hath darkened.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Wednesday<\/p>\n Mark 13:14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cSo when you see the<\/span> \u2018abomination of desolation,\u2019<\/span> [f<\/a>]<\/sup>spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not\u201d<\/span> (let the reader understand), \u201cthen<\/span> let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.<\/span> <\/span> 15\u00a0<\/sup>Let him who is on the housetop not go down into the house, nor enter to take anything out of his house.<\/span> <\/span> 16\u00a0<\/sup>And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes.<\/span> <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!<\/span> <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>And pray that your flight may not be in winter.<\/span> <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>For in<\/i> those days there will be tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the creation which God created until this time, nor ever shall be.<\/span> <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>And unless the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect\u2019s sake, whom He chose, He shortened the days.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n 21\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cThen if anyone says to you, \u2018Look, here is<\/i> the Christ!\u2019 or, \u2018Look, He is<\/i> there!\u2019 do not believe it.<\/span> <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>For false christs and false prophets will rise and show signs and<\/span> wonders to deceive, if possible, even the<\/span> [g<\/a>]<\/sup>elect.<\/span> <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>But<\/span> take heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0 O Lord, as a man I have sinned, but do Thou, as the compassionate God, have mercy on me, seeing the infirmity of my soul.<\/p>\n O Lord, send Thy grace to my help, that I may glorify Thy holy name.<\/p>\n Thursday 28\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cNow learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.<\/span> <\/span> 29\u00a0<\/sup>So you also, when you see these things happening, know that<\/span> [i<\/a>]<\/sup>it is near\u2014at the doors!<\/span> <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.<\/span> <\/span>
\n\u201cSit at My right hand,<\/span><\/span>
\nTill I make Your enemies Your footstool.\u201d \u2019<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nMark 13:24\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;<\/span> <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>the stars of heaven will fall, and the powers in the heavens will be<\/span> shaken.<\/span> <\/span> 26\u00a0<\/sup>Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.<\/span> <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>And then He will send His angels, and gather together His<\/span> [h<\/a>]<\/sup>elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
