{"id":14975,"date":"2025-03-01T20:19:31","date_gmt":"2025-03-02T01:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=14975"},"modified":"2025-03-01T20:19:31","modified_gmt":"2025-03-02T01:19:31","slug":"daily-devotional-for-march-2-8-season-of-lent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=14975","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional for March 2-8 ~ Season of Lent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday<\/p>\n<p>**During Lent brief Old Testament verses will be used<\/p>\n<p>That which has been <em>is<\/em> what will be,<br \/>\nThat which <em>is<\/em> done is what will be done,<br \/>\nAnd <em>there is<\/em> nothing new under the sun.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Is there anything of which it may be said,<br \/>\n\u201cSee, this <em>is<\/em> new\u201d?<br \/>\nIt has already been in ancient times before us.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><em>There is<\/em> no remembrance of former <em>things, <\/em><br \/>\nNor will there be any remembrance of <em>things<\/em> that are to come<br \/>\nBy <em>those<\/em> who will come after. \u2013 Ecclesiastes 1:9-11<\/p>\n<p>King Solomon points out that in the lives of mankind, spiritual and emotional issues never change.\u00a0 Technology changes, but the interior struggle and problems caused by that, particularly sin, effect all around us in the same forms as in the past.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 We adore Thee O Christ and we bless Thee, for by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Monday<\/p>\n<p>Do not say, \u201cI sinned, so what happened to me?\u201d For the Lord is patient. Do not be so confident of atonement That you add sin to sin; And do not say, \u201cHis compassion is great; He will atone for the multitude of my sins,\u201d For both mercy and wrath come from Him; And His anger rests on sinners. Do not delay to turn to the Lord\u2026 \u00a0\u00a0Book of Sirach 5:4-7<\/p>\n<p>Do not mistake the patience of\u00a0 God when we do things we shouldn&#8217;t and &#8216;get by with it&#8217; for His lack of caring or awareness.\u00a0 \u00a0At some point in this life or in the next all debts will be paid.\u00a0 So, repent while there is time.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<\/p>\n<p>O Lord and Master of my life, a spirit of idleness, despondency, ambition, and idle talking give me not.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them.<br \/>\nI did not withhold my heart from any pleasure,<br \/>\nFor my heart rejoiced in all my labor;<br \/>\nAnd this was my reward from all my labor.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done<br \/>\nAnd on the labor in which I had toiled;<br \/>\nAnd indeed all <em>was<\/em> vanity and grasping for the wind.<br \/>\n<em>There was<\/em> no profit under the sun. &#8211; Ecclesiastes 2:10-11<\/p>\n<p>This could be the motto of modern man:\u00a0 the incessant search for pleasure and &#8216;things&#8217;.\u00a0 \u00a0The word &#8216;vanity&#8217; means &#8216;meaningless&#8217;.\u00a0 He was able to get all he wanted and at the end saw the emptiness.\u00a0 We will never get &#8216;all\u00a0 we want&#8217; but we much profit from the teachings of others like Solomon and the Lord<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<\/p>\n<p>But rather a spirit of chastity, humble-mindedness, patience, and love bestow upon me Thy servant.<\/p>\n<p>Yea, O Lord King, grant me to see my failings and not condemn my brother; for blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<\/p>\n<p>Turn to the Lord and forsake your sins, And pray in His presence and reduce your offense. Return to the Most High and turn away from wrongdoing, And hate an abomination exceedingly. &#8211; Book of Sirach\u00a0 17:20-21<\/p>\n<p>Not only should be not sin, we should hate sin.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<\/p>\n<p>Yea, O Lord King, grant me to see my failings and not condemn my brother; for blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>\nAnd now bless the God of all, Who does great things in every way, Who exalts our days from our birth And deals with us according to His mercy. May He give us gladness of heart, And may there be peace in our days, In Israel as in the days of old. May He entrust with us His mercy, And let Him redeem us in our days. \u2013 Book of Sirach 50:22-24<\/p>\n<p>The theme of praising God is found throughout the Old and New Testaments&#8230;it should be found throughout our day as well.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, blot out our sins. O Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name&#8217;s sake.<\/p>\n<p>Friday<\/p>\n<p>Do not walk after your own desires, But restrain your appetites. If you fill your soul with the desire for pleasure, It will make you the laughingstock of your enemies. Do not rejoice in great luxury, Lest you become needy by its expense. Do not become a beggar by feasting on borrowed money When you have nothing in your purse. &#8211; Book of Sirach 18:29-32<\/p>\n<p>Modern debt is an example of this.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3X)<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<br \/>\nGenesis 1:1\u2026In the beginning God made heaven and earth.\u00a0 The earth was invisible and unfinished; and darkness was over the deep. The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the water\u2026 (Genesis 1:26. .) Then God said, \u201cLet Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of heaven, over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that moves on the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>GOD reveals Himself as the Trinity in the first chapter of the Bible (God is a spirit, the Holy Spirit is mentioned separately and \u2018our image\u2019 could only be that of the Son who was fully God and fully man.
