*Commentary from the Navarre Bible this week<\/p>\n
Luke 8:Then His mother and brothers came to Him, and could not approach Him because of the crowd. <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>And it was told Him by some,<\/i> who said, \u201cYour mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see You.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n 21\u00a0<\/sup>But He answered and said to them, \u201cMy mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Commentary:\u00a0These words of our Lord show us that fulfilment of the Will of God is more important than kinship and that, therefore, our Lady is more united to her Son by virtue of her perfect fulfilment of what God asked of her, than by the Holy Spirit\u2019s using her to make Christ\u2019s body<\/p>\n Prayer: Monday Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>But He said to them, \u201cWhere is your faith?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, \u201cWho can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Commentary:\u00a0Jesus falls asleep; he was tired. In other passages the Gospel describes similar situations: he sits wearily beside a well (Jn 4:6); he is thirsty and asks the Samaritan woman for a drink (In 4:7). Passages of this kind show the humanity of Jesus, true God and true man. \u201cHow generous our Lord is in humbling himself and fully accepting his human condition! He does not use his divine power to escape from difficulties or effort. Let\u2019s pray that he will teach us to be tough, to love work, to appreciate the human and divine nobility of savoring the consequences of self-giving\u201d (J. Escriv\u00e1, Christ is passing by)<\/p>\n Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 May the Strength of God guide us. May the Power of God preserve us. Tuesday 30\u00a0<\/sup>Jesus asked him, saying, \u201cWhat is your name?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n And he said, \u201cLegion,\u201d because many demons had entered him. <\/span> 31\u00a0<\/sup>And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.<\/span><\/p>\n 32\u00a0<\/sup>Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. <\/span> 33\u00a0<\/sup>Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned.<\/span><\/p>\n 34\u00a0<\/sup>When those who fed them<\/i> saw what had happened, they fled and told it<\/i> in the city and in the country. <\/span> 35\u00a0<\/sup>Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. <\/span> 36\u00a0<\/sup>They also who had seen it<\/i> told them by what means he who had been demon-possessed was [m<\/a>]<\/sup>healed. <\/span> 37\u00a0<\/sup>Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the [n<\/a>]<\/sup>Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned.<\/span><\/p>\n 38\u00a0<\/sup>Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, <\/span> 39\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cReturn to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.\u201d<\/span> And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.<\/span><\/p>\n Prayer: <\/p>\n Wednesday The attitude of local people towards this miracle reminds us that meeting God and living a Christian life require us to subordinate personal plans to God\u2019s designs.\u00a0\u00a0If we have a selfish or materialistic outlook we fail to appreciate the value of divine things and push God out of our lives, begging him to go away, as these people did.<\/p>\n Prayer: Thursday But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. <\/span> 43\u00a0<\/sup>Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, <\/span> 44\u00a0<\/sup>came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped.<\/span><\/p>\n 45\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus said, \u201cWho touched Me?\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n When all denied it, Peter [o<\/a>]<\/sup>and those with him said, \u201cMaster, the multitudes throng and press You, [p<\/a>]<\/sup>and You say, \u2018Who touched Me?\u2019<\/span> \u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
\nGlory to God in the Highest and on earth peace good will among men.<\/p>\n
\nLuke 8: 22\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, \u201cLet us cross over to the other side of the lake.\u201d<\/span> And they launched out. <\/span> 23\u00a0<\/sup>But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water,<\/i> and were in [j<\/a>]<\/sup>jeopardy. <\/span> 24\u00a0<\/sup>And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, \u201cMaster, Master, we are perishing!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
\nMay the Wisdom of God instruct us. May the Hand of God protect us.
\nMay the Way of God direct us. May the Shield of God defend us.
\nMay the Angels of God guard us. – Against the snares of the evil one.

\nLuke 8:\u00a026\u00a0<\/sup>Then they sailed to the country of the [k<\/a>]<\/sup>Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons [l<\/a>]<\/sup>for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. <\/span> 28\u00a0<\/sup>When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, \u201cWhat have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!\u201d <\/span> 29\u00a0<\/sup>For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nMay Christ be with us! May Christ be before us! May Christ be in us, Christ be over all!

\nMatthew 8:\u00a040\u00a0<\/sup>So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. <\/span> 41\u00a0<\/sup>And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus\u2019 feet and begged Him to come to his house, <\/span> 42\u00a0<\/sup>for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying.<\/span><\/p>\n
