*This week readings from ‘My Daily Bread’ Catholic devotional*<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
MY CHILD (from Christ’s viewpoint)\u00a0 , I have said that the Kingdom of God is within you. Turn to Me with your
\nwhole heart. Do not think too much of this world, and your soul will find rest in Me. Do
\nnot let this earthly life take all of your attention. Think often of Me and of My Will in your
\nlife. Then you will become more conscious of My presence within your soul. I bring you
\nthe gifts of peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. These gifts are not given to those who pay too
\nmuch attention to this earthly life.
\n2. One who loves Me and lives My truth, is a supernatural person. By My grace he
\nbecomes free from sinful and dangerous desires. He can freely turn to Me. He is able to rise
\nabove the visible world around him and enjoy My friendship.<\/p>\n
Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 For as many have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ\u2026Alleluia<\/p>\n
Monday
\n3. As iron, cast into the fire, loses its rust and becomes bright with the flame, so too a man
\nwho turns his whole heart to Me, is purified of all sluggishness and changed into a new
\nman.
\nTHINK:
\nIf I take this step and concentrate more on God’s place in my daily life, I shall find the
\npeace of Christ. Earthly worries and distractions become small in the presence of\u00a0God. The
\nmore I am impressed by Him, the less shall I be impressed by everything else.<\/p>\n
Prayer:\u00a0 Sacred Heat of Jesus, have mercy on us.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tuesday
\nMY CHILD, when I created the first man and woman, I gave them many gifts to make
\ntheir earthly life as easy and peaceful as possible. They were free from pain, labor,
\nsickness, and death. They immediately knew the answers to whatever problems came
\nalong. They had complete command over the appetites and desires of body and soul. Over
\nand above these gifts, they were given grace to live a supernatural life. Dwelling within
\ntheir souls, I gave more than natural light to their minds, and more than natural strength to
\ntheir wills.
\n2. None of these gifts really belonged to human beings. I added them over and above the
\ngift of human life along with the natural human powers of body and soul. At any time I
\ncould take away these extra gifts, and man would still have all that naturally belonged to
\nhim. I left it up to Adam to decide whether he and his children were to keep these extra
\ngifts forever. As the representative of the human race, Adam was to make one intelligent
\nand free act, an act of obedience to My Will. By this act he would be acknowledging the
\nsupreme truth\u00a0of his existence-that he is a creature completely dependent on Me, his
\nCreator.
\nPrayer:\u00a0 O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who art everywhere present and fillest all things, Treasury of good things and Giver of life: Come and dwell in us, and cleanse us of all impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Wednesday
\nIn disobeying My command in the Garden of Eden, Adam refused to acknowledge the
\nsupreme truth. The external act of eating the fruit was a small act, but the interior rebellion
\nagainst My Will was a serious matter. Adam wanted to be equal to Me, as the rebel angels
\ndid in Paradise. As a result of Adam’s disobedience, I took away My extra gifts. Man was
\nleft without the aid of My extra gifts, except that he might still obtain grace to earn Heaven.
\n4. Man now has to bear an inner conflict, a conflict quite natural to him. His animal
\nappetites now go after their wants without regard for his better judgment and free will.
\nEven when man wishes to follow his intelligence and strive after better things, he has to
\nfight for control of his unreasoning appetites and blind desires. He no longer has infused
\nknowledge, but must learn the answers to his daily problems by labor and experience.<\/p>\n
Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 Create in me a clean heart of God and renew a right spirit within me.\u00a0 Cast me not from thy presence nor take thy Holy Spirit from me.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation and by thy governing spirit establish me.
\nThursday<\/p>\n
As long as you have a human body on earth, you cannot be entirely free from venial sins,
\nnor can you live without some sorrow and weariness. Yet you must do your best with
\npatience and determination, regardless of failures. All too soon this present state of disorder
\nwill pass away. Then will your earthly life melt away into the perfect life which I have
\npromised to those who keep My commandments. Adam passed on to his descendants the
\nhuman nature which he himself possessed-a nature that was weakened by his disobedience.
\nA large part of man’s weakness ties in this, that after the Fall, man’s animal nature retained
\nits normal strength and appetites, but was no longer under the perfect control of man’s
\nhigher power of reason and freewill. God, however, made up for this weakness by giving
\nus His grace. By the use of God’s grace, man can avoid fully deliberate sins, and thus
\nbecome once more the master of his life.
\nPrayer:\u00a0 Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
\nV. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
\nR. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
\n*Salve Regina<\/p>\n
Friday
\nMY CHILD, unless You learn to control your feelings, You will always find it hard to obey
\nthose who have authority over you. Your feelings do not reason. They simply turn away
\nfrom what is unpleasant, be it right or wrong. Feelings can be calmed in some degree by an
\nintelligent outlook. Still, you will never have a more troublesome and dangerous enemy
\nthan your own unreasoning feelings and blind desires.
\n2. By Prayer and meditation you will acquire a grander outlook on life. You will see the
\nunreasonableness and mean selfishness of your feelings and moods. I will show you the
\nglorious goal which I have set for you. When you have grasped the higher purpose of your
\nearthly life, you will acquire a holy contempt for whatever opposes that purpose. This
\nheavenly knowledge and eternal goal will bring unity and order into your life. You will
\nthen find it easier to guide your lower nature according to My Will.<\/p>\n
Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Saturday
\n3. At times you will have to use stubborn resistance and even violence against the
\nunreasoning tendencies within you. Sometimes you need to disregard your likes and
\ndislikes, and follow your better judgment. With My truth to guide you and My sacraments
\nto strengthen you, you cannot fail in this daily combat for Heaven.
\nTHINK:
\nAn obedient horse can help man in his daily tasks, but a stubborn mule can do more harm
\nthan good. So is it with man’s own nature. His reason and will, strengthened by grace, must
\nguide his unreasoning appetites and desires to right action. A good life is one which
\nfollows God’s law. Only God’s Will can lead me to Heaven.<\/p>\n
Prayer:\u00a0 Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.\u00a0 As it was in the beginning it is now and ever shall be, world without end.\u00a0 Amen.<\/p>\n
