{"id":218,"date":"2015-05-15T00:15:50","date_gmt":"2015-05-15T00:15:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=218"},"modified":"2015-05-15T00:15:50","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T00:15:50","slug":"friday-may-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=218","title":{"rendered":"Friday, May 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #165916;\"><strong>Orthodox Daily Devotional<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Scripture Reading<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>JOHN 7: <sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>On the last day, that great <em>day<\/em> of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, \u201cIf anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. <sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.\u201d \u00a0<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet <em>given,<\/em> because Jesus was not yet glorified. <sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, \u201cTruly this is the Prophet.\u201d \u00a0<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>Others said, \u201cThis is the Christ.\u201d But some said, \u201cWill the Christ come out of Galilee? <sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?\u201d <sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>So there was a division among the people because of Him. <sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, \u201cWhy have you not brought Him?\u201d<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>The officers answered, \u201cNo man ever spoke like this Man!\u201d<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>Then the Pharisees answered them, \u201cAre you also deceived? <sup>48\u00a0<\/sup>Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him? <sup>49\u00a0<\/sup>But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.\u201d <sup>50\u00a0<\/sup>Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them, <sup>51\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cDoes our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?\u201d<sup>52\u00a0<\/sup>They answered and said to him, \u201cAre you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.\u201d <sup>53\u00a0<\/sup>And everyone went to his <em>own<\/em> house.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Orthodox\u00a0Wisdom<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The feast of the tabernacles signified the thrice longed for time of the resurrection [For its observance, God specified] the taking of boughs and mentioned the fruit of a good tree and other things besides11 in order to indicate the recovery of Paradise that was about to be given to us again through Christ. But since [Leviticus] specifies at the end that one should take everything out of the brook and rejoice again, we say that our Lord Jesus Christ was compared to a brook in whom we shall find all delight and enjoyment in hope.
