Sunday \u00a0(Matthew 3:26-39) Healing of the Gadarene possessed and the hogs dying in the sea<\/p>\n

St. Ambrose:<\/p>\n

Now although the number of those healed by Christ is different in Luke and Matthew, yet the mystery is one and the same. For as he who had a devil is the figure of the Gentile people, the two also in like manner take the figure of the Gentiles. For whereas Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japhet; the family of Shem only was called to the possession of God, and from the other two the people of different nations were descended. He (as Luke says) had devils long time, inasmuch as the Gentile people was vexed from the deluge down to our Lord\u2019s coming. But he was naked, because the Gentiles lost the garment of their nature and virtue.<\/p>\n

Monday \u00a0Genesis 43 \u00a0*the brother return to Egypt with Benjamin as Joseph asked and talk to his steward..<\/p>\n

19\u00a0<\/sup>When they drew near to the steward of Joseph\u2019s house, they talked with him at the door of the house, <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u201cO sir, we indeed came down the first time to buy food; <\/span> 21\u00a0<\/sup>but it happened, when we came to the encampment, that we opened our sacks, and there, each<\/i> man\u2019s money was<\/i> in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight; so we have brought it back in our hand. <\/span> 22\u00a0<\/sup>And we have brought down other money in our hands to buy food. We do not know who put our money in our sacks.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

23\u00a0<\/sup>But he said, \u201cPeace be<\/i> with you, do not be afraid. Your God and the God of your father has given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money.\u201d Then he brought Simeon out to them.<\/span><\/p>\n

24\u00a0<\/sup>So the man brought the men into Joseph\u2019s house and gave them<\/i> water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their donkeys feed. <\/span> 25\u00a0<\/sup>Then they made the present ready for Joseph\u2019s coming at noon, for they heard that they would eat bread there.<\/span><\/p>\n

26\u00a0<\/sup>And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was<\/i> in their hand into the house, and bowed down before him to the earth. <\/span> 27\u00a0<\/sup>Then he asked them about their<\/i> well-being, and said, \u201cIs<\/i> your father well, the old man of whom you spoke? Is<\/i> he still alive?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

28\u00a0<\/sup>And they answered, \u201cYour servant our father is<\/i> in good health; he is<\/i> still alive.\u201d And they bowed their heads down and prostrated themselves.<\/span><\/p>\n

29\u00a0<\/sup>Then he lifted his eyes and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother\u2019s son, and said, \u201cIs<\/i> this your younger brother of whom you spoke to me?\u201d And he said, \u201cGod be gracious to you, my son.\u201d <\/span> 30\u00a0<\/sup>Now his heart yearned for his brother; so Joseph made haste and sought somewhere<\/i> to weep. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tuesday \u00a0Genesis 44<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>And he commanded the steward of his house, saying, \u201cFill the men\u2019s sacks with food, as much as they can carry, and put each man\u2019s money in the mouth of his sack. <\/span> 2\u00a0<\/sup>Also put my cup, the silver cup, in the mouth of the sack of the youngest, and his grain money.\u201d So he did according to the word that Joseph had spoken. <\/span> 3\u00a0<\/sup>As soon as the morning dawned, the men were sent away, they and their donkeys. <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>When they had gone out of the city, and<\/i> were not yet<\/i> far off, Joseph said to his steward, \u201cGet up, follow the men; and when you overtake them, say to them, \u2018Why have you repaid evil for good? <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>Is<\/i> not this the one<\/i> from which my lord drinks, and with which he indeed practices divination? You have done evil in so doing.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>So he overtook them, and he spoke to them these same words. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>And they said to him, \u201cWhy does my lord say these words? Far be it from us that your servants should do such a thing. <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>Look, we brought back to you from the land of Canaan the money which we found in the mouth of our sacks. How then could we steal silver or gold from your lord\u2019s house? <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>With whomever of your servants it is found, let him die, and we also will be my lord\u2019s slaves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

10\u00a0<\/sup>And he said, \u201cNow also let<\/i> it be<\/i> according to your words; he with whom it is found shall be my slave, and you shall be blameless.\u201d <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>Then each man speedily let down his sack to the ground, and each opened his sack. <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>So he searched. He began with the oldest and left off with the youngest; and the cup was found in Benjamin\u2019s sack. <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>Then they tore their clothes, and each man loaded his donkey and returned to the city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday \u00a0Genesis 45<\/p>\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>Then Joseph said to his brothers, \u201cI am<\/i> Joseph; does my father still live?\u201d But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence. <\/span> 4\u00a0<\/sup>And Joseph said to his brothers, \u201cPlease come near to me.\u201d So they came near. Then he said: \u201cI am<\/i> Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt. <\/span> 5\u00a0<\/sup>But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life. <\/span> 6\u00a0<\/sup>For these two years the famine has been<\/i> in the land, and there are<\/i> still five years in which there will be<\/i> neither plowing nor harvesting. <\/span> 7\u00a0<\/sup>And God sent me before you to preserve a posterity for you in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. <\/span> 8\u00a0<\/sup>So now it was<\/i> not you who<\/i> sent me here, but God; and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt.<\/span><\/p>\n

9\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cHurry and go up to my father, and say to him, \u2018Thus says your son Joseph: \u201cGod has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me, do not tarry. <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>You shall dwell in the land of Goshen<\/span><\/p>\n

Thursday \u00a0Genesis 46<\/p>\n

11\u00a0<\/sup>And Joseph situated his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded. <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>Then Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all his father\u2019s household with bread, according to the number in their<\/i> families.<\/span><\/p>\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>Now there was<\/i> no bread in all the land; for the famine was<\/i> very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought; and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh\u2019s house.<\/span><\/p>\n

15\u00a0<\/sup>So when the money failed in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, \u201cGive us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For the money has failed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

16\u00a0<\/sup>Then Joseph said, \u201cGive your livestock, and I will give you bread<\/i> for your livestock, if the money is gone.\u201d <\/span> 17\u00a0<\/sup>So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange<\/i> for the horses, the flocks, the cattle of the herds, and for the donkeys. Thus he fed them with bread in exchange<\/i> for all their livestock that year.<\/span><\/p>\n

18\u00a0<\/sup>When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, \u201cWe will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands. <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us<\/i> seed, that we may live and not die, that the land may not be desolate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

20\u00a0<\/sup>Then Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe upon them. So the land became Pharaoh\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday \u00a0Genesis 49 \u00a0 *Israel blesses and prophecies about each of his sons, the Tribes of Israel<\/p>\n

And Jacob called his sons and said, \u201cGather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days:<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cGather together and hear, you sons of Jacob,<\/span>
\nAnd listen to Israel your father.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cReuben, you are my firstborn,<\/span>
\nMy might and the beginning of my strength,<\/span>
\nThe excellency of dignity and the excellency of power.<\/span>
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>Unstable as water, you shall not excel,<\/span>
\nBecause you went up to your father\u2019s bed;<\/span>
\nThen you defiled it<\/i>\u2014<\/span>
\nHe went up to my couch.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cSimeon and Levi are<\/i> brothers;<\/span>
\nInstruments of cruelty are in<\/i> their dwelling place.<\/span>
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>Let not my soul enter their council;<\/span>
\nLet not my honor be united to their assembly;<\/span>
\nFor in their anger they slew a man,<\/span>
\nAnd in their self-will they hamstrung an ox.<\/span>
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>Cursed be<\/i> their anger, for it is<\/i> fierce;<\/span>
\nAnd their wrath, for it is cruel!<\/span>
\nI will divide them in Jacob<\/span>
\nAnd scatter them in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

8\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cJudah, you are he<\/i> whom your brothers shall praise;<\/span>
\nYour hand shall be<\/i> on the neck of your enemies;<\/span>
\nYour father\u2019s children shall bow down before you.<\/span>
\n9\u00a0<\/sup>Judah is<\/i> a lion\u2019s whelp;<\/span>
\nFrom the prey, my son, you have gone up.<\/span>
\nHe bows down, he lies down as a lion;<\/span>
\nAnd as a lion, who shall rouse him?<\/span>
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>The scepter shall not depart from Judah,<\/span>
\nNor a lawgiver from between his feet,<\/span>
\nUntil Shiloh comes;<\/span>
\nAnd to Him shall be<\/i> the obedience of the people.<\/span>
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>Binding his donkey to the vine,<\/span>
\nAnd his donkey\u2019s colt to the choice vine,<\/span>
\nHe washed his garments in wine,<\/span>
\nAnd his clothes in the blood of grapes.<\/span>
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>His eyes are<\/i> darker than wine,<\/span>
\nAnd his teeth whiter than milk.<\/span><\/p>\n

**The special honor show Judah is because Christ would come from this tribe<\/p>\n

Saturday<\/p>\n

\n

\u201cZebulun shall dwell by the haven of the sea;<\/span>
\nHe shall become<\/i> a haven for ships,<\/span>
\nAnd his border shall adjoin Sidon.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

14\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cIssachar is a strong donkey,<\/span>
\nLying down between two burdens;<\/span>
\n15\u00a0<\/sup>He saw that rest was<\/i> good,<\/span>
\nAnd that the land was<\/i> pleasant;<\/span>
\nHe bowed his shoulder to bear a burden,<\/i><\/span>
\nAnd became a band of slaves.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

16\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cDan shall judge his people<\/span>
\nAs one of the tribes of Israel.<\/span>
\n17\u00a0<\/sup>Dan shall be a serpent by the way,<\/span>
\nA viper by the path,<\/span>
\nThat bites the horse\u2019s heels<\/span>
\nSo that its rider shall fall backward.<\/span>
\n18\u00a0<\/sup>I have waited for your salvation, O Lord<\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

19\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cGad, a troop shall tramp upon him,<\/span>
\nBut he shall triumph at last.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nAnd he shall yield royal dainties.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\nHe uses beautiful words.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

22\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cJoseph is<\/i> a fruitful bough,<\/span>
\nA fruitful bough by a well;<\/span>
\nHis branches run over the wall.<\/span>
\n23\u00a0<\/sup>The archers have bitterly grieved him,<\/span>
\nShot at him<\/i> and hated him.<\/span>
\n24\u00a0<\/sup>But his bow remained in strength,<\/span>
\nAnd the arms of his hands were made strong<\/span>
\nBy the hands of the Mighty God<\/i> of Jacob<\/span>
\n(From there is<\/i> the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel),<\/span>
\n25\u00a0<\/sup>By the God of your father who will help you,<\/span>
\nAnd by the Almighty who will bless you<\/span>
\nWith<\/i> blessings of heaven above,<\/span>
\nBlessings of the deep that lies beneath,<\/span>
\nBlessings of the breasts and of the womb.<\/span>
\n26\u00a0<\/sup>The blessings of your father<\/span>
\nHave excelled the blessings of my ancestors,<\/span>
\nUp to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills.<\/span>
\nThey shall be on the head of Joseph,<\/span>
\nAnd on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

27\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBenjamin is a ravenous wolf;<\/span>
\nIn the morning he shall devour the prey,<\/span>
\nAnd at night he shall divide the spoil.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

28\u00a0<\/sup>All these are<\/i> the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is<\/i> what their father spoke to them. And he blessed them; he blessed each one according to his own blessing.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
