THEOPHYLACT: &#8220;But as when a man turns his eye to a shining light, or puts fuel to the fire, immediately they have their effects; so indeed he who brings faith to Him who is able to cure, immediately obtains his cure&#8230;For she believed, and was saved, and as was fitting first touched Christ with her mind, then with her body.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Monday \u00a0Genesis 50<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Gen-50-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>When Joseph\u2019s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, \u201cPerhaps Joseph will hate us, and may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him.\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1523\" class=\"text Gen-50-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>So they sent <i>messengers<\/i> to Joseph, saying, \u201cBefore your father died he commanded, saying, <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1524\" class=\"text Gen-50-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>\u2018Thus you shall say to Joseph: \u201cI beg you, please forgive the trespass of your brothers and their sin; for they did evil to you.\u201d\u2019 Now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.\u201d And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1525\" class=\"text Gen-50-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>Then his brothers also went and fell down before his face, and they said, \u201cBehold, we <i>are<\/i> your servants.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1526\" class=\"text Gen-50-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>Joseph said to them, \u201cDo not be afraid, for <i>am<\/i> I in the place of God? <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1527\" class=\"text Gen-50-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>But as for you, you meant evil against me; <i>but<\/i> God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as <i>it is<\/i> this day, to save many people alive. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1528\" class=\"text Gen-50-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.\u201d And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 1<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1541\" class=\"text Exod-1-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1542\" class=\"text Exod-1-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to his people, \u201cLook, the people of the children of Israel <i>are<\/i> more and mightier than we; <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1543\" class=\"text Exod-1-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and <i>so<\/i> go up out of the land.\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1544\" class=\"text Exod-1-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1545\" class=\"text Exod-1-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1546\" class=\"text Exod-1-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1547\" class=\"text Exod-1-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage\u2014in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve <i>was<\/i> with rigor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1548\" class=\"text Exod-1-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one <i>was<\/i> Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1549\" class=\"text Exod-1-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>and he said, \u201cWhen you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see <i>them<\/i> on the birthstools, if it <i>is<\/i> a son, then you shall kill him; but if it <i>is<\/i> a daughter, then she shall live.\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1550\" class=\"text Exod-1-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1551\" class=\"text Exod-1-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, \u201cWhy have you done this thing, and saved the male children alive?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1552\" class=\"text Exod-1-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>And the midwives said to Pharaoh, \u201cBecause the Hebrew women <i>are<\/i> not like the Egyptian women; for they <i>are<\/i> lively and give birth before the midwives come to them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1553\" class=\"text Exod-1-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1554\" class=\"text Exod-1-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1555\" class=\"text Exod-1-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, \u201cEvery son who is born<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-1555c\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-1555c&quot; title=&quot;See footnote c&quot;&gt;c&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote c\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+1&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-1555c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup> you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 2<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Exod-2-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">2\u00a0<\/span>And a man of the house of Levi went and took <i>as wife<\/i> a daughter of Levi. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1557\" class=\"text Exod-2-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he <i>was<\/i> a beautiful <i>child,<\/i> she hid him three months. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1558\" class=\"text Exod-2-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid <i>it<\/i> in the reeds by the river\u2019s bank. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1559\" class=\"text Exod-2-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1560\" class=\"text Exod-2-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Then the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along the riverside; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1561\" class=\"text Exod-2-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>And when she opened <i>it,<\/i> she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him, and said, \u201cThis is one of the Hebrews\u2019 children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1562\" class=\"text Exod-2-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>Then his sister said to Pharaoh\u2019s daughter, \u201cShall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1563\" class=\"text Exod-2-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>And Pharaoh\u2019s daughter said to her, \u201cGo.\u201d So the maiden went and called the child\u2019s mother. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1564\" class=\"text Exod-2-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Then Pharaoh\u2019s daughter said to her, \u201cTake this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give <i>you<\/i> your wages.\u201d So the woman took the child and nursed him. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1565\" class=\"text Exod-2-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh\u2019s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses,<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-1565a\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-1565a&quot; title=&quot;See footnote a&quot;&gt;a&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+2&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-1565a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup> saying, \u201cBecause I drew him out of the water.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Exod-2-11\"><sup class=\"versenum\">11\u00a0<\/sup>Now it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1567\" class=\"text Exod-2-12\"><sup class=\"versenum\">12\u00a0<\/sup>So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1568\" class=\"text Exod-2-13\"><sup class=\"versenum\">13\u00a0<\/sup>And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, \u201cWhy are you striking your companion?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1569\" class=\"text Exod-2-14\"><sup class=\"versenum\">14\u00a0<\/sup>Then he said, \u201cWho made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Exod-2-14\">So Moses feared and said, \u201cSurely this thing is known!\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1570\" class=\"text Exod-2-15\"><sup class=\"versenum\">15\u00a0<\/sup>When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Thursday<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 2<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1571\" class=\"text Exod-2-16\"><sup class=\"versenum\">16\u00a0<\/sup>Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father\u2019s flock. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1572\" class=\"text Exod-2-17\"><sup class=\"versenum\">17\u00a0<\/sup>Then the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1573\" class=\"text Exod-2-18\"><sup class=\"versenum\">18\u00a0<\/sup>When they came to Reuel their father, he said, \u201cHow <i>is it that<\/i> you have come so soon today?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1574\" class=\"text Exod-2-19\"><sup class=\"versenum\">19\u00a0<\/sup>And they said, \u201cAn Egyptian delivered us from the hand of the shepherds, and he also drew enough water for us and watered the flock.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1575\" class=\"text Exod-2-20\"><sup class=\"versenum\">20\u00a0<\/sup>So he said to his daughters, \u201cAnd where <i>is<\/i> he? Why <i>is<\/i> it <i>that<\/i> you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1576\" class=\"text Exod-2-21\"><sup class=\"versenum\">21\u00a0<\/sup>Then Moses was content to live with the man, and he gave Zipporah his daughter to Moses. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1577\" class=\"text Exod-2-22\"><sup class=\"versenum\">22\u00a0<\/sup>And she bore <i>him<\/i> a son. He called his name Gershom,<sup class=\"footnote\" data-fn=\"#fen-NKJV-1577b\" data-link=\"[&lt;a href=&quot;#fen-NKJV-1577b&quot; title=&quot;See footnote b&quot;&gt;b&lt;\/a&gt;]\">[<a title=\"See footnote b\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+2&amp;version=NKJV#fen-NKJV-1577b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup> for he said, \u201cI have been a stranger in a foreign land.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1578\" class=\"text Exod-2-23\"><sup class=\"versenum\">23\u00a0<\/sup>Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died. Then the children of Israel groaned because of the bondage, and they cried out; and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1579\" class=\"text Exod-2-24\"><sup class=\"versenum\">24\u00a0<\/sup>So God heard their groaning, and God remembered His covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1580\" class=\"text Exod-2-25\"><sup class=\"versenum\">25\u00a0<\/sup>And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God acknowledged <i>them.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Friday<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 3<\/p>\n<p class=\"chapter-1\"><span class=\"text Exod-3-1\"><span class=\"chapternum\">3\u00a0<\/span>Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian. And he led the flock to the back of the desert, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1582\" class=\"text Exod-3-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">2\u00a0<\/sup>And the Angel of the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush <i>was<\/i> not consumed. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1583\" class=\"text Exod-3-3\"><sup class=\"versenum\">3\u00a0<\/sup>Then Moses said, \u201cI will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1584\" class=\"text Exod-3-4\"><sup class=\"versenum\">4\u00a0<\/sup>So when the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, \u201cMoses, Moses!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"text Exod-3-4\">And he said, \u201cHere I am.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1585\" class=\"text Exod-3-5\"><sup class=\"versenum\">5\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said, \u201cDo not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand <i>is<\/i> holy ground.\u201d <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1586\" class=\"text Exod-3-6\"><sup class=\"versenum\">6\u00a0<\/sup>Moreover He said, \u201cI <i>am<\/i> the God of your father\u2014the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.\u201d And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1587\" class=\"text Exod-3-7\"><sup class=\"versenum\">7\u00a0<\/sup>And the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> said: \u201cI have surely seen the oppression of My people who <i>are<\/i> in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1588\" class=\"text Exod-3-8\"><sup class=\"versenum\">8\u00a0<\/sup>So I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1589\" class=\"text Exod-3-9\"><sup class=\"versenum\">9\u00a0<\/sup>Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to Me, and I have also seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1590\" class=\"text Exod-3-10\"><sup class=\"versenum\">10\u00a0<\/sup>Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Saturday<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 4<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NKJV-1629\" class=\"text Exod-4-27\"><sup class=\"versenum\">27\u00a0<\/sup>And the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> said to Aaron, \u201cGo into the wilderness to meet Moses.\u201d So he went and met him on the mountain of God, and kissed him. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1630\" class=\"text Exod-4-28\"><sup class=\"versenum\">28\u00a0<\/sup>So Moses told Aaron all the words of the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> who had sent him, and all the signs which He had commanded him. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1631\" class=\"text Exod-4-29\"><sup class=\"versenum\">29\u00a0<\/sup>Then Moses and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel. <\/span> <span id=\"en-NKJV-1632\" class=\"text Exod-4-30\"><sup class=\"versenum\">30\u00a0<\/sup>And Aaron spoke all the words which the <span class=\"small-caps\">Lord<\/span> had spoken to Moses.
