The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>But a hireling, <em>he who is<\/em> not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. <sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep. <sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>I am the good shepherd; and I know My <em>sheep,<\/em> and am known by My own. <sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. <sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock <em>and<\/em> one shepherd.<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cTherefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. <sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.\u201d <sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings. <sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>And many of them said, \u201cHe has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?\u201d<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>Others said, \u201cThese are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><strong>Orthodox\u00a0Wisdom<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will be their shepherd,\u201d he says, \u201cand I will be close to them,\u201d as clothing to their skin. He desires to save my flesh by clothing it in the robe of immortality, and he has anointed my body. \u201cThey shall call on me,\u201d he says, and I will answer, \u201cHere I am.\u201d Lord, you have heard me more quickly than I ever hoped! \u201cAnd if they pass over they shall not fall, says the Lord,\u201d meaning that we who are passing over into immortality shall not fall into corruption, for he will preserve us. He has said he would, and to do so is his own wish. Such is our Teacher, both good and just.
