{"id":3563,"date":"2017-06-23T13:00:33","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T17:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=3563"},"modified":"2017-06-23T10:12:48","modified_gmt":"2017-06-23T14:12:48","slug":"analysis-loving-the-world-in-greece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=3563","title":{"rendered":"Analysis:  Loving the World in Greece"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The well-known economic hardships in Greece led to the election a few years ago of a leftist government headed by atheist\u00a0Alexis Tsipras. \u00a0Hardships haven&#8217;t really gotten any less but the government has increasingly been pushing the Greek Orthodox Church out of its traditional role in the education of the nation&#8217;s youth. \u00a0Eliminating prayer in schools, trying to make it easier to &#8216;opt out&#8217; of religious education and a week of &#8216;sexual education&#8217; that urges acceptance of \u00a0lifestyles the Church has always condemned as sinful \u00a0and limiting the number of priests that serve \u00a0(since the government is in charge of their salaries) are just a few of the government&#8217;s initiatives. \u00a0This is the result of voters putting secular economic matters over traditional values which has happened throughout the Western world.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3564\" src=\"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/0AFP_Getty-511556467-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A participant of the  Gay Pride event  waves a rainbow flag by police protecting the Greek parliament in central  Athens on June 9, 2012.
