{"id":441,"date":"2015-06-14T20:00:21","date_gmt":"2015-06-15T00:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=441"},"modified":"2015-06-13T21:08:00","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T01:08:00","slug":"monday-june-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=441","title":{"rendered":"Monday, June 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 7 <sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cEnter by the narrow gate; for wide <em>is<\/em> the gate and broad <em>is<\/em> the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. <sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>Because narrow <em>is<\/em> the gate and difficult <em>is<\/em> the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. <sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBeware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep\u2019s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. <sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? <sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. <sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor <em>can<\/em> a bad tree bear good fruit. <sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. <sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore by their fruits you will know them.<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cNot everyone who says to Me, \u2018Lord, Lord,\u2019 shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. <sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>Many will say to Me in that day, \u2018Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?\u2019 <sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>And then I will declare to them, \u2018I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>St. John Chrysostom:<\/p>\n<p>He said \u201cwhoever does the will of my Father\u201d shall enter, not whoever does my will. Why? Nothing is insufficient if they do the will of the Father. What he did say was itself a very difficult thing to accept in view of their weakness. He implied that to do his Father\u2019s will is to do his will. There is no other willing of the Son than the will of the Father. This may apply in particular to those who commit themselves in detail to legal rules yet take little thought for the actual embodiment of their better intentions. Elsewhere Paul confronts them directly when he says, \u201cConsider this.
