{"id":449,"date":"2015-06-18T20:16:53","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T00:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=449"},"modified":"2015-06-13T21:18:34","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T01:18:34","slug":"friday-june-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=449","title":{"rendered":"Friday, June 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 9\u00a0 <sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>As they went out, behold, they brought to Him a man, mute and demon-possessed. <sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>And when the demon was cast out, the mute spoke. And the multitudes marveled, saying, \u201cIt was never seen like this in Israel!\u201d<sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>But the Pharisees said, \u201cHe casts out demons by the ruler of the demons.\u201d<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. <sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. <sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>Then He said to His disciples, \u201cThe harvest truly <em>is<\/em> plentiful, but the laborers <em>are<\/em> few. <sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>St. John Chrysostom:<br \/>\nThe affliction of the dumb demoniac was not natural. It was the work of the evil spirit. So it was that the demoniac was \u201cbrought to him.\u201d For he had no tongue to speak for himself, no way to ask on his own behalf, being speechless. He could not petition another, since the evil spirit had bound his tongue. And as his tongue was fettered, so was his soul.\u00a0This is why Jesus did not require a confession of faith from him.
