MATTHEW 8 <\/span>28\u00a0<\/sup>When He had come to the other side, to the country of the Gergesenes,[<\/sup><\/span>c<\/sup><\/a>]<\/sup> there met Him two demon-possessed men,<\/i> coming out of the tombs, exceedingly fierce, so that no one could pass that way. 29\u00a0<\/sup>And suddenly they cried out, saying, \u201cWhat have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?\u201d30\u00a0<\/sup>Now a good way off from them there was a herd of many swine feeding. 31\u00a0<\/sup>So the demons begged Him, saying, \u201cIf You cast us out, permit us to go away[<\/sup><\/span>d<\/sup><\/a>]<\/sup> into the herd of swine.\u201d32\u00a0<\/sup>And He said to them, \u201cGo.\u201d So when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine. And suddenly the whole herd of swine ran violently down the steep place into the sea, and perished in the water.33\u00a0<\/sup>Then those who kept them<\/i> fled; and they went away into the city and told everything, including what had happened<\/i> to the demon-possessed men.<\/i> 34\u00a0<\/sup>And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him<\/i> to depart from their region. So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.<\/span><\/p>\n

The divine nature of the only begotten Son was already scorching the demons in unspeakable flames. Christ was shutting up the fiercest demons in blocked roads. He was undoing the devil\u2019s tyranny. \u201cYou have come before the time,\u201d they cried out. For they knew from the Scriptures that Christ was going to come and would judge them. Treating the incarnation as if it had happened at the wrong time, they pled that he had come in an untimely way. This misrepresentation is not surprising. In their deceptiveness, they did not hesitate to say even this. Yet, although they know that vengeance is to fall upon them, they still say haughtily, \u201cWhat have you to do with us?\u201d They know that the final Judge in fact has a score to settle with them, inasmuch as they had broken his commandments.
