{"id":614,"date":"2015-07-13T20:27:49","date_gmt":"2015-07-14T00:27:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=614"},"modified":"2015-07-04T17:30:24","modified_gmt":"2015-07-04T21:30:24","slug":"july-14-2015-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=614","title":{"rendered":"July 14, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 16 \u00a0Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>He answered and said to them, \u201cWhen it is evening you say, \u2018<em>It will be<\/em> fair weather, for the sky is red\u2019; <sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>and in the morning, \u2018<em>It will be<\/em> foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.\u2019 Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot <em>discern<\/em> the signs of the times. <sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.\u201d And He left them and departed. <sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. <sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus said to them, \u201cTake heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.\u201d<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>And they reasoned among themselves, saying, \u201c<em>It is<\/em> because we have taken no bread.\u201d<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>But Jesus, being aware of <em>it,<\/em> said to them, \u201cO you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread? <sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? <sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? <sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?\u2014<em>but<\/em> to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.\u201d <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>Then they understood that He did not tell <em>them<\/em> to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.<\/p>\n<p>PRACTICAL APPLICATION: \u00a0Jesus has to explain the meaning of he says to the disciples who misinterpret it and don&#8217;t understand. \u00a0This is the role of the Church throughout the centuries: \u00a0to help us understand and correctly apply what the Lord taught the Twelve. \u00a0There is no &#8216;evolution&#8217; or progression of truth and understanding like some modern people incorrectly thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 16 \u00a0Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2\u00a0He answered and said to them, \u201cWhen it is [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-614","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-orthodox-daily-devotional","has_no_thumb"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/614","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=614"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/614\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":615,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/614\/revisions\/615"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=614"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=614"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=614"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
