{"id":632,"date":"2015-07-23T20:23:27","date_gmt":"2015-07-24T00:23:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=632"},"modified":"2015-07-04T21:27:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-05T01:27:25","slug":"friday-july-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=632","title":{"rendered":"Friday, July 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 19 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, <em>that<\/em> He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, \u201cIs it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for <em>just<\/em> any reason?\u201d<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>And He answered and said to them, \u201cHave you not read that He who made <em>them<\/em> at the beginning \u2018made them male and female,\u2019 <sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>and said, \u2018For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh\u2019? <sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.\u201d<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>They said to Him, \u201cWhy then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?\u201d<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>He said to them, \u201cMoses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. <sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.\u201d<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>His disciples said to Him, \u201cIf such is the case of the man with <em>his<\/em> wife, it is better not to marry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To commit adultery is to have relations with a woman who is not one\u2019s proper spouse. A man commits adultery if he brings another woman in, instead of the one to whom he was lawfully bound. The law forbade obvious adultery, which is when another man seduces the woman in the house. But the Savior includes also that adultery that has not become known to everyone or that has not been proven as having occurred physically, because it is still adultery.
