\u00a0Ephesian 5:8\u00a0\u00a0<\/sup>For you were once darkness, but now you are<\/i> light in the Lord. Walk as children of light <\/span> 9\u00a0<\/sup>(for the fruit of the [b<\/a>]<\/sup>Spirit is<\/i> in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), <\/span> 10\u00a0<\/sup>finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. <\/span> 11\u00a0<\/sup>And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather [c<\/a>]<\/sup>expose them.<\/i> <\/span> 12\u00a0<\/sup>For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. <\/span> 13\u00a0<\/sup>But all things that are [d<\/a>]<\/sup>exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. <\/span> 14\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore He says:<\/span><\/p>\n

17\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.<\/i> <\/span> 18\u00a0<\/sup>And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, <\/span> 19\u00a0<\/sup>speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, <\/span> 20\u00a0<\/sup>giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, <\/span> 21\u00a0<\/sup>submitting to one another in the fear of [f<\/a>]<\/sup>God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prayer:\u00a0 O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, blot out our sins. O Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name’s sake.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThe soul of the Christian needs to be refined and sensitive, to have sensibility and wings, to be constantly in flight and to live in dreams, to fly through infinity, among the stars, amidst the greatness of God, amid silence. Whoever wants to become a Christian must first become a poet. That\u2019s what it is! You must suffer. You must love and suffer \u2014 suffer for the one you love. Love makes effort for the loved one. She runs through the night; she stays awake; she stains her feet with blood in order to meet her beloved. She makes sacrifices and disregards all impediments, threats and difficulties for the sake of the loved one. Love toward Christ is something even higher, infinitely higher. And when we say \u2018love\u2019 we don\u2019t mean the virtues that we will acquire, but the heart that is pervaded by love towards Christ and others. We need to turn everything in this direction.\u201d

\n\u201cIn the Song of Songs the bride says of Christ the Bridegroom,\u2019 I sleep but my heart awakes. The voice of my beloved knocks at the door.\u2019 The bride stays awake and dreams of Him. Even if she sleeps, her soul turns towards Him. Thus she expresses her love and complete devotion. She has Him constantly in her mind and in her heart, even when she is asleep. She adores and worships Him. Do you understand? Worship must spring from the whole soul and whole heart. What does that mean? Your only thought must be God. But the thought of God is un-like other thoughts. It is different. It is a kind of worship of Christ. This is the thought that beguiles and delights. It is not something that is done under duress. You feel a spiritual delight and pleasure. It\u2019s not like the homework a child does for school. It is like the passionate love between two people, but higher and spiritual.\u201d

Elder St Paisios on True Suffering…
\n“If we only remembered that Christ suffered the greatest injustice of all, then we would be ready to accept with joy every injustice done to us. Though God, He descended to earth out of infinite love and accepted to be confined in the womb of the Panaghia for nine months. Then He lived quietly for thirty years. From the age of fifteen to thirty, He worked as a carpenter among the Jews. Even the tools used in those days were very rudimentary, and required hard work to transform rough pieces of wood into useful furniture. It is difficult for us imagine how difficult the work of a carpenter was in those days. And after that, Jesus endured three years of hardships, wandering around barefoot and preaching. He healed the sick, restored the sight of blind people with spittle and clay, and they still wanted Him to show them signsd and miracles. He cast out demons from the possessed but unfortunately, the ungrateful people claimed He Himself was possessed by a demon\u2026 in the end He was mocked crucified.”

On the Martyrs…
\n“One marvels sometimes. What gave them such vigor to carry out such superhuman struggles? This is what really concerns us. We end up wondering sometimes: \u2018Why can\u2019t we do this? \u2019How could they do it?\u2019 We even study the cases of martyrs, who were human like us, to find out how they could endure such horrifying trials; this shocks us even just hearing about them! Can anyone say that these stories were blown up? Woe, we cannot even think that! What is their secret, therefore? In whose name did these human beings made of flesh, manage to accomplish such achievement?
\n– Obviously, the first explanation is that they have accomplished such feats through Divine Grace. But then again, we wonder: \u2018Ok. Was the Lord assisting only those? Is He absent in other generations? Is the Lord biased? Does He chose some people, whom He strengthens and promotes and gives others a miss?\u2019 Such questions are always appropriate. The Lord is the One who gives His grace and accomplishes \u2018signs and wonders\u2019 but it is man who causes Grace to operate. Thereafter, this same man with the assistance of Grace accomplishes these tasks which are beyond human nature. Therefore, what is the main reason behind all these? What is the reason which causes this kind of Grace to operate? We will find the answer in the writings of our holy Fathers. ”
