{"id":798,"date":"2015-08-08T20:33:13","date_gmt":"2015-08-09T00:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=798"},"modified":"2015-08-08T13:23:31","modified_gmt":"2015-08-08T17:23:31","slug":"sunday-august-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=798","title":{"rendered":"Sunday, August 9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 14.0pt;\">MATHEW 17 <\/span><span class=\"text\"><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, <sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cLord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. <sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.\u201d<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>Then Jesus answered and said, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">\u201cO faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"text\"> <sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, \u201cWhy could we not cast it out?\u201d<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>So Jesus said to them, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">\u201cBecause of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, \u2018Move from here to there,\u2019 and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.<\/span><span class=\"text\"> <sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"woj\">However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"text\"><sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, <\/span><span class=\"woj\">\u201cThe Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men,<\/span><span class=\"text\"> <sup>23\u00a0<\/sup><\/span><span class=\"woj\">and they will kill Him, and the third day He will be raised up.\u201d<\/span><span class=\"text\"> And they were exceedingly sorrowful.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You see that this man holds the sin of unbelief in the disciples, because they were not able to heal. \u00a0And so, the Lord put to shame him for what he is accusing the disciples, said: &#8220;O faithless generation,&#8221; that is not so great a sin of weakness, your sin of unbelief being great, overcame\u00a0their respective strength. \u00a0Reviling the man, the Lord rebukes all those present and all unbelievers. \u00a0Saying, &#8220;How long shall I be with you,&#8221; he indicates that he is enxious for the\u00a0sufferings of the cross&#8230;How long I will live with offenders and non-believers? \u00a0&#8220;And Jesus rebuked him.&#8221; \u00a0Who? \u00a0Unbelieving. \u00a0From this it is clear that the man, being an unbeliever himself, thanks to his unbelief, made it possible\u00a0for a\u00a0demon to enter his son.<\/p>\n<p>(St Theophylact)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MATHEW 17 14\u00a0And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, 15\u00a0\u201cLord, have mercy on my son, for he is [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-798","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-orthodox-daily-devotional","has_no_thumb"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/798","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=798"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/798\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":856,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/798\/revisions\/856"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=798"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=798"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=798"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
