{"id":865,"date":"2015-08-09T20:22:52","date_gmt":"2015-08-10T00:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=865"},"modified":"2015-08-08T21:28:05","modified_gmt":"2015-08-09T01:28:05","slug":"monday-august-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=865","title":{"rendered":"Monday, August 10"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 23 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>saying: \u201cThe scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses\u2019 seat. <sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, <em>that<\/em> observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. <sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay <em>them<\/em> on men\u2019s shoulders; but they <em>themselves<\/em> will not move them with one of their fingers. <sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. <sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, <sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, \u2018Rabbi, Rabbi.\u2019 <sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>But you, do not be called \u2018Rabbi\u2019; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. <sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. <sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. <sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cBut woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in <em>yourselves,<\/em> nor do you allow those who are entering to go in. <sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows\u2019 houses, and for a pretense make long prayers.
