{"id":913,"date":"2015-08-20T20:05:39","date_gmt":"2015-08-21T00:05:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=913"},"modified":"2015-08-15T21:08:34","modified_gmt":"2015-08-16T01:08:34","slug":"friday-august-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=913","title":{"rendered":"Friday, August 21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MATTHEW 26 Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, <em>that<\/em> He said to His disciples, <sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u201cYou know that after two days is the Passover, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.\u201d<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people assembled at the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, <sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>and plotted to take Jesus by trickery and kill <em>Him.<\/em> <sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>But they said, \u201cNot during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.\u201d<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>And when Jesus was in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, <sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>a woman came to Him having an alabaster flask of very costly fragrant oil, and she poured <em>it<\/em> on His head as He sat <em>at the table.<\/em> <sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>But when His disciples saw <em>it,<\/em> they were indignant, saying, \u201cWhy this waste? <sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>For this fragrant oil might have been sold for much and given to <em>the<\/em> poor.\u201d<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>But when Jesus was aware of <em>it,<\/em> He said to them, \u201cWhy do you trouble the woman? For she has done a good work for Me. <sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>For you have the poor with you always, but Me you do not have always. <sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>For in pouring this fragrant oil on My body, she did <em>it<\/em> for My burial. <sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She confessed great faith by unstintingly pouring out such precious myrrh. She poured it out on His head, honoring the chiefest part&#8230;Offer, then, fragrance of myrrh, intricately blended of many virtues, to Christ\u2019s divinity.
