{"id":9198,"date":"2020-12-12T20:28:17","date_gmt":"2020-12-13T01:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9198"},"modified":"2020-12-12T21:43:00","modified_gmt":"2020-12-13T02:43:00","slug":"daily-devotional-december-13-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9198","title":{"rendered":"Daily  Devotional December 13-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday<\/p>\n<p>John 6:60\u00a0\u00a0Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this [that you must eat Christ&#8217;s flesh] , said, \u201cThis is a hard saying; who can understand it?\u201d 61 \u00a0 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, \u201cDoes this offend you? 62What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64But there are some of you who do not believe.\u201d For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 \u00a0 And He said, \u201cTherefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.\u201d 66 \u00a0 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 \u00a0 Then Jesus said to the twelve, \u201cDo you also want to go away?\u201d 68 \u00a0 But Simon Peter answered Him, \u201cLord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 \u00a0 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.\u201d* 70 \u00a0 Jesus answered them, \u201cDid I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?\u201d 71 \u00a0 He spoke\u00a0of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nGlory to God in the Highest and on earth peace good will among men.<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nMark 7:1\u00a0Then the Pharisees and some of the scribes came together to Him, having come from Jerusalem. 2 \u00a0 Now when* they saw some of His disciples eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault. 3 \u00a0 For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they wash their hands in a special way, holding the tradition of the elders. 4When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash. And there are many other things which they have received and hold, like the washing of cups, pitchers, copper vessels, and couches. 5 \u00a0 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him, \u201cWhy do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?\u201d 6 \u00a0 He answered and said to them, \u201cWell did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written: \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018 This people honors Me with their lips, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 But their heart is far from Me. \u00a0 \u00a0 7 And in vain they worship Me, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.\u2019* 8For laying aside the commandment of God, you hold<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 May the Strength of God guide us. May the Power of God preserve us.<br \/>\nMay the Wisdom of God instruct us. May the Hand of God protect us.<br \/>\nMay the Way of God direct us. May the Shield of God defend us.<br \/>\nMay the Angels of God guard us. &#8211; Against the snares of the evil one.<br \/>\n<em>Prayer for the Faithful of St. Patrick Part 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>\nMark\u00a0 7:\u00a0He said to them, \u201cAll too well you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your tradition. 10For Moses said, \u2018Honor your father and your mother\u2019;* and, \u2018He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.\u2019* 11But you say, \u2018If a man says to his father or mother, \u201cWhatever profit you might have received from me is Corban\u201d\u2014\u2019 (that is, a gift to God), 12then you no longer let him do anything for his father or his mother, 13making the word of God of no effect through\u00a0your tradition which you have handed down. And many such things you do.\u201d 14 \u00a0 When He had called all the multitude to Himself, He said to them, \u201cHear Me, everyone, and understand: 15There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man. 16If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!\u201d* 17 \u00a0 When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18 \u00a0 So He said to them, \u201cAre you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?\u201d* 20 \u00a0 And He said, \u201cWhat comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23All these evil things come from within and defile a man.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nMay Christ be with us! May Christ be before us! May Christ be in us, Christ be over all!<br \/>\nMay Thy Grace, Lord, Always be ours, This day, O Lord, and forevermore. Amen.<br \/>\n<em>Prayer for the Faithful of St. Patrick\u00a0 Part 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nMark 7:24\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon.* And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden. 25 \u00a0 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. 26 \u00a0 The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 \u00a0 But Jesus said to her, \u201cLet the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children\u2019s bread and throw it to the little dogs.\u201d 28 \u00a0 And she answered and said to Him, \u201cYes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children\u2019s crumbs.\u201d 29 \u00a0 Then He said to her, \u201cFor this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.\u201d 30 \u00a0 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nGlory to Jesus Christ \u2013 Glory forever!<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>\nMark 7:\u00a031 \u00a0 Again, departing from the region of Tyre and Sidon, He came through the midst of the region of Decapolis to the Sea of Galilee. 32 \u00a0 Then they brought to Him one who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, and they begged Him to put His hand on him. 33 \u00a0 And He took him aside from the multitude, and put His fingers in his ears, and He spat and touched his tongue. 34 \u00a0 Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, \u201cEphphatha,\u201d that is, \u201cBe opened.\u201d 35 \u00a0 Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was loosed, and he spoke plainly. 36 \u00a0 Then He commanded them that they should tell no one; but the more He commanded them, the more widely they proclaimed it. 37 \u00a0 And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, \u201cHe has done all things well. He makes both the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nFor as many have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ\u2026Alleluia<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\nMark 8:\u00a0In those days, the multitude being very great and having nothing to eat, Jesus called His disciples to Him and said to them, 2\u201c I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. 3And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar.\u201d 4 \u00a0 Then His disciples answered Him, \u201cHow can one satisfy these people with bread here in the wilderness?\u201d 5 \u00a0 He asked them, \u201cHow many loaves do you have?\u201d And they said, \u201cSeven.\u201d 6 \u00a0 So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. And He took the seven loaves and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude. 7 \u00a0 They also had a few small fish; and having blessed them, He said to set them also before them. 8 \u00a0 So they ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets of leftover fragments. 9 \u00a0 Now those who had eaten were about four thousand.
