{"id":9287,"date":"2021-01-09T20:21:56","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T01:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9287"},"modified":"2021-01-07T20:30:31","modified_gmt":"2021-01-08T01:30:31","slug":"daily-devotional-for-january-10-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9287","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional for January 10-17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday<br \/>\nMark 9:38 \u00a0 Now John answered Him, saying, \u201cTeacher, we saw someone who does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we forbade him because he does not follow us.\u201d 39 \u00a0 But Jesus said, \u201cDo not forbid him, for no one who works a miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me. 40For he who is not against us is on our* side. 41For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.\u201d\u00a042\u201c But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea. 43If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched\u2014 44where \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018 Their worm does not die \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And the fire is not quenched.\u2019* 45And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched\u2014 46where \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018 Their worm does not die \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And the fire is not quenched.\u2019* 47And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire\u2014 48where \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2018 Their worm does not die \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 And the fire is not quenched.\u2019* 49\u201c For everyone will be seasoned with fire,* and every sacrifice will be seasoned with salt. 50Salt is good, but if the salt loses its flavor, how will you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace with one another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 O my God I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three Divine Persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; I believe that Thy Divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the Holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. (Act of Faith)<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nMatthew 18:12\u201c What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? 13And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. 14Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. uCorrecting a Fellow Believer \/ Matthew 18: 15-20 15\u201c Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that \u2018by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.\u2019* 17And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector. 18\u201c Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever\u00a0\u00a0you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19\u201c Again I say* to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. 20For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Having risen from sleep I hasten to Thee, O Lord, Lover of men, and by Thy loving-kindness I strive to do Thy work, and I pray to Thee:\u00a0 help me at all times, in everything, and deliver me from every evil thing of the world and every attack of the devil, and lead me into Thine eternal Kingdom. For Thou art my Creator, the Giver and Provider of everything good, and all my hope is in Thee, and to Thee I send up glory, now and ever, and to the ages of ages.\u00a0 Amen.<br \/>\n*Prayer for the next day\u2019s morning<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<br \/>\nMatthew 18:21 \u00a0 Then Peter came to Him and said, \u201cLord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?\u201d 22 \u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cI do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. 23Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24And when he had begun to settle accounts, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. 25But as he was not able to pay, his master commanded that he be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and that payment be made. 26The servant therefore fell down before him, saying, \u2018Master, have patience with me, and I will pay you all.\u2019 27Then the master of that servant was moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. 28\u201c But that servant went out and found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and he laid hands on him and took him by the throat, saying, \u2018Pay me what you owe!\u2019 29So his fellow servant fell down at his feet* and begged him, saying, \u2018Have patience with me, and I will pay you all.\u2019* 30And he would not, but went and threw him into prison till he should pay the debt. 31So when his fellow servants saw what had been done, they were very grieved, and came and told their master all that had been done. 32Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, \u2018You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?\u2019 34And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him.<\/p>\n<p>35\u201c So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.\u201d*<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope! To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears! Turn, then, O most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.<br \/>\nV. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.<br \/>\nR. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.<br \/>\n*Salve Regina<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nJohn 7:1 \u00a0 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews* sought to kill Him. 2 \u00a0 Now the Jews\u2019 Feast of Tabernacles was at hand. 3 \u00a0 His brothers therefore said to Him, \u201cDepart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing. 4 \u00a0 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.\u201d 5 \u00a0 For even His brothers did not believe in Him. 6 \u00a0 Then Jesus said to them, \u201cMy time has not yet come, but your time is always ready. 7The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. 8You go up to this feast. I am not yet* going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come.\u201d 9 \u00a0 When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 Queen of Heaven rejoice, alleluia: For He whom you merited to bear, alleluia, Has risen as He said, alleluia. Pray for us to God, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. Because the Lord is truly risen, alleluia.<br \/>\nLet us pray : O God, who by the Resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, granted joy to the whole world: grant we beg Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may lay hold of the joys of eternal life. Amen.<br \/>\n*Regina Coeli<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>\nLuke 9:51 \u00a0 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 52 \u00a0 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. 53 \u00a0 But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. 54 \u00a0 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, \u201cLord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?\u201d*\u00a0 \u00a055 \u00a0 But He turned and rebuked them,* and said, \u201cYou do not know what manner of spirit you are of. 56For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men\u2019s lives but to save them.\u201d* And they went to another village.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.\u00a0\u00a0 And she conceived of the Holy Ghost.<br \/>\nHail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and in the hour of our death.<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\nLuke 9:57 \u00a0 Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, \u201cLord, I will follow You wherever You go.\u201d 58 \u00a0 And Jesus said to him, \u201cFoxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.\u201d 59 \u00a0 Then He said to another, \u201cFollow Me.\u201d But he said, \u201cLord, let me first go and bury my father.\u201d 60 \u00a0 Jesus said to him, \u201cLet the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.\u201d 61 \u00a0 And another also said, \u201cLord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.\u201d 62 \u00a0 But Jesus said to him, \u201cNo one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the\u00a0\u00a0kingdom of God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0 \u00a0Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an Angel, may by His Passion and Cross, be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<br \/>\nJohn 7:10 \u00a0 But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret. 11 \u00a0 Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, \u201cWhere is He?\u201d 12 \u00a0 And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, \u201cHe is good\u201d; others said, \u201cNo, on the contrary, He deceives the people.\u201d 13 \u00a0 However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews. 14 \u00a0 Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught. 15 \u00a0 And the Jews marveled, saying, \u201cHow does this Man know letters, having never studied?\u201d 16 \u00a0 Jesus* answered them and said, \u201cMy doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. 17If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. 18He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him. 19Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?\u201d 20 \u00a0 The people answered and said, \u201cYou have a demon.
