{"id":9864,"date":"2021-05-22T20:14:32","date_gmt":"2021-05-23T00:14:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9864"},"modified":"2021-05-21T20:30:16","modified_gmt":"2021-05-22T00:30:16","slug":"daily-devotional-for-may-23-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/orthodoxinsight.com\/?p=9864","title":{"rendered":"Daily Devotional for May 23 &#8211; 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday<\/p>\n<p>Luke 17:20 \u00a0 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, \u201cThe kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21nor will they say, \u2018See here!\u2019 or \u2018See there!\u2019* For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.\u201d 22 \u00a0 Then He said to the disciples, \u201cThe days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. 23And they will say to you, \u2018Look here!\u2019 or \u2018Look there!\u2019* Do not go after them or follow them. 24For as the lightning that flashes out of one part under heaven shines to the other part under heaven, so also the Son of Man will be in His day. 25But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. 26And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; 29but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. 30Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31\u201c In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. 32Remember Lot\u2019s wife. 33Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. 34I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left. 35Two women will be grinding together: the one will be taken and the other left. 36Two men will be in the field: the one will be taken and the other left.\u201d* 37 \u00a0 And they answered and said to Him, \u201cWhere, Lord?\u201d\u00a0\u00a0So He said to them, \u201cWherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nGlory to God in the Highest and on earth peace good will among men.<\/p>\n<p>Monday<br \/>\nLuke 18:Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, 2 \u00a0 saying: \u201cThere was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. 3Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, \u2018Get justice for me from my adversary.\u2019 4And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, \u2018Though I do not fear God nor regard man, 5yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.\u2019 \u00a0\u201d 6 \u00a0 Then the Lord said, \u201cHear what the unjust judge said. 7And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 8I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:\u00a0\u00a0 May the Strength of God guide us. May the Power of God preserve us.<br \/>\nMay the Wisdom of God instruct us. May the Hand of God protect us.<br \/>\nMay the Way of God direct us. May the Shield of God defend us.<br \/>\nMay the Angels of God guard us. &#8211; Against the snares of the evil one.<br \/>\n<em>Prayer for the Faithful of St. Patrick Part 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday<\/p>\n<p>Luke:9 \u00a0 Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10\u201c Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, \u2018God, I thank You that I am not like other men\u2014 extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.\u2019 13And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, \u2018God, be merciful to me a sinner!\u2019 14I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nMay Christ be with us! May Christ be before us! May Christ be in us, Christ be over all!<br \/>\nMay Thy Grace, Lord, Always be ours, This day, O Lord, and forevermore. Amen.<br \/>\n<em>Prayer for the Faithful of St. Patrick\u00a0 Part 2<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday<br \/>\nMatthew<\/p>\n<p>Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. 2 \u00a0 And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there. 3 \u00a0 The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, \u201cIs it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?\u201d 4 \u00a0 And He answered and said to them, \u201cHave you not read that He who made* them at the beginning \u2018made them male and female,\u2019* 5and said, \u2018For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh\u2019?* 6So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.\u201d 7 \u00a0 They said to Him, \u201cWhy then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?\u201d 8 \u00a0 He said to them, \u201cMoses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 9And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality,* and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.\u201d 10 \u00a0 His disciples said to Him, \u201cIf such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.\u201d 11 \u00a0 But He said to them, \u201cAll cannot accept this saying, but only those to whom it has been given:<\/p>\n<p>12For there are eunuchs who were born thus from their mother\u2019s womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven\u2019s sake. He who is able to accept it, let him accept it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nGlory to Jesus Christ \u2013 Glory forever!<\/p>\n<p>Thursday<br \/>\nMark 10:Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. 14 \u00a0 But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, \u201cLet the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. 15Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.\u201d 16 \u00a0 And He took them up in His arms, laid His hands on them, and blessed them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nFor as many have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ\u2026Alleluia<\/p>\n<p>Friday<br \/>\nMark 10:17 \u00a0 Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, \u201cGood Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?\u201d 18 \u00a0 So Jesus said to him, \u201cWhy do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. 19You know the commandments: \u2018Do not commit adultery,\u2019 \u2018Do not murder,\u2019 \u2018Do not steal,\u2019 \u2018Do not bear false witness,\u2019 \u2018Do not defraud,\u2019 \u2018Honor your father and your mother.\u2019 \u201d* 20 \u00a0 And he answered and said to Him, \u201cTeacher, all these things I have kept from my youth.\u201d 21 \u00a0 Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, \u201cOne thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.\u201d 22 \u00a0 But he was sad at this word, and went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions. 23 \u00a0 Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, \u201cHow hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prayer:<br \/>\nChrist is in our midst \u2013 He is and always shall be<\/p>\n<p>Saturday<br \/>\nMark 10:And the disciples were astonished at His words.
