“The belief that salvation lies solely in our hands is not only wrong but heretical . The ability to obtain salvation through good works only, attributed to Pelagius, was condemned as heretical by the Council of Cathage…Such a belief implies that God is no more than a bookkeeper tallying up our good and bad deeds. Such a belief has no place for Grace or repentance. Such a belief has no place for the church or the Eucharist… Such a belief ultimately means that we are capable of saving ourselves and making God irrelevant for salvation – and that cannot be right.”
