READING FROM PSALMS THIS WEEK

Psalm 10 (11) 1 For the End; a psalm by David.

In the Lord I trust. How will you say to my soul, “Flee to the mountains like a sparrow”? 2See, the sinners stretch tight their bow; They prepare their arrows in the quiver, That in a moonless night they may shoot down the upright in heart. 3For the things You created, they destroyed. But what did the righteous man do? 4The Lord is in His holy temple; The Lord, His throne is in heaven;

His eyes are fixed upon the poor man, His eyelids examine the sons of men. 5The Lord examines the righteous man and the ungodly man, And he who loves unrighteousness hates his own soul. 6He shall rain down snares upon sinners; Fire and brimstone and a raging wind shall be the portion of their cup. 7The righteous Lord loves righteousness; His face beholds the upright.

Prayer:  Having risen from sleep I hasten to Thee, O Lord, Lover of men, and by Thy loving-kindness I strive to do Thy work, and I pray to Thee:  help me at all times, in everything, and deliver me from every evil thing of the world and every attack of the devil, and lead me into Thine eternal Kingdom. For Thou art my Creator, the Giver and Provider of everything good, and all my hope is in Thee, and to Thee I send up glory, now and ever, and to the ages of ages.  Amen.

Monday

Psalm 14 (15) 1 A psalm by David.

O Lord, who shall dwell in Your tabernacle? Who shall live in Your holy mountain? 2He who walks blamelessly, and works righteousness, And speaks truth in his heart, 3Who does not deceive with his tongue, Neither does evil to his neighbor; And does not find fault with those nearest him.

4He disdains those who do evil in his presence, But he holds in honor those who fear the Lord; He swears an oath to his neighbor and does not set it aside. 5He does not lend his money at interest, And he does not take a bribe against the innocent. 6He who does these things shall never be shaken.

Prayer:  Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace good will among men.

Tuesday

Psalm 18 (19) 1 For the End; a psalm by David. 2The heavens declare the glory of God; The firmament shows the creation of His hands. 3Day to day utters speech, And night to night reveals knowledge.

4There is no speech nor language Where their voices are not heard. 5Their proclamation went forth into all the earth, And their words to the ends of the world. In the sun He set His tabernacle; 6And it rejoices exceedingly Like a bridegroom coming forth from his bridal chamber, Like a strong man to run a race. 7Its rising is from one end of heaven, And its circuit runs to the other end; And nothing shall be hidden from its heat. 8The law of the Lord is blameless, converting souls; The testimony of the Lord is trustworthy, making children wise;

Prayer:   Blessed by the name of the Lord from henceforth and forever more.

Wednesday
Psalm 18 (19) cont.

9The ordinances of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the Lord is bright, enlightening the eyes; 10The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring unto ages of ages; The judgments of the Lord are true, being altogether just. 11More to be desired are they than gold and a very precious stone, Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 12For indeed Your servant keeps them; In keeping them there is great reward. 13Who will understand his transgressions? Cleanse me from hidden sins, 14And spare your servant from unnatural sins; If they have no dominion over me, then I shall be blameless, And I shall be cleansed from great sin.

Prayer:   May the Strength of God guide us. May the Power of God preserve us.
May the Wisdom of God instruct us. May the Hand of God protect us.
May the Way of God direct us. May the Shield of God defend us.
May the Angels of God guard us. – Against the snares of the evil one.
Prayer for the Faithful of St. Patrick Part 1

Thursday

Psalm 19 (20) 1 For the End; a psalm by David. 2

May the Lord hear you in the day of affliction; May the name of the God of Jacob defend you. 3May He send you help from His holy place, And may He support you from Zion. 4May He remember every sacrifice of yours, And may your whole burnt offering be honored.

5May He give you according to your heart, May He fulfill all your counsel. 6We will greatly rejoice in Your salvation, And in the name of our God we will be magnified. 7Now I know the Lord has saved His anointed; He will hear him from His holy heaven; The salvation of His right hand is mighty. 8Some glory in chariots, some in horses, But in the name of the Lord our God we shall be magnified. 9Their feet were tied together; so they fell; But we rose up and were restored. 10O Lord, save Your King,

And hear us in the day we call upon You.

Prayer:  Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3X)

Friday

Psalm 22 (23) 1 A psalm by David.

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; Your cup runs over. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord to the end of my days.

Prayer:  O my God I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all my sins, because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all-good and worthy of all my love. I firmly resolve, with the help of Thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life.
*Act of Contrition

Saturday

Psalm 31 (32) 1 By David; concerning understanding.

Blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven, And whose sins are covered. 2Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord does not take into account, And in whose mouth there is no deceit.

3Because I kept silent, my bones grew old From my groaning all the day long; 4For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; I became miserable when the thorn pierced me. (Pause) 5I made known my sin, And I did not hide my transgression; I said, “I will confess my transgression to the Lord,” And You forgave the ungodliness of my sin. (Pause) 6For this cause, everyone who is holy will pray to Him in a well-fitted time; Surely they will not draw near to Him in a flood of many waters.

7You are my refuge from the oppression of those who surround me; O my exceeding joy, redeem me from those who encircle me. (Pause) 8“I will give you understanding, and I will teach you in the way you should walk; I will fix My eyes on you. 9Do not be like the horse and the mule, which have no understanding; You squeeze their jaws with bit and bridle, Lest they come near you.” 10Many are the scourges of the sinner, But he who hopes in the Lord, mercy shall encircle him. 11Be glad in the Lord and rejoice greatly, O righteous ones, And boast, all you upright in heart.

Prayer:   May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
