Sts Cosmas and Damien:  these 3rd century healers combined their training and physicians with a witness for Christ, to whom they gave all credit for the cure of their patients.  They are called ‘unmercenary’ because the accepted no payment for their services.  Even when we give without wanting any physical reward we often find ourselves still desiring ‘credit’ or acknowledgement for what we have done.  So, we aren’t as generous as we think ourselves to be.
