St. Niphon of Mt. Athos:  Niphon held several high offices in the Church, including Patriarch of Constantinople.  Removed by the Turks he went to Mt. Athos as an ordinary monk the the lowest of chores until he was eventually ‘discovered’.  he still continued to help in this way after that time.  There are no ‘higher’ ranks of Christians, just different roles.
